Show WORK FOR FROSTY DAYS. Logan is growing rapidly, and will before long assume a more important position among the larger cities of Utah. With this rapid advancement in some respects, thereis in others, a great deal of backwardness manifested. Our streets and sidewalks and naturally graded in most parts and require little attention to make good roads and walks. A few [unreadable word] of gravel on muddy walks at this time of year, will make a solid foundation for next year's storms. Many whose teams are not employed are hauling gravel now, and get an immediate reward in the pleasant smiles of those who pass that way on foot. But there are always some who will not improve until forced to, and their mud is a drawbac to a whole street. On third street from the West canal to Main Street the sidewalks have been grave led exception a few rods in several [unreadable word] and for the first time I [unreadable words] places. In the worst of these, it is necessary to walk to the street, as the middle of the sidewalk be low and holds a good depth of slush and mud. In this frosty weather while teams are [unreadable word] and men cannot be employed in the fields, it would be a good thing to employ a little lecture time in graveling sidewalks, street crossings, and walks around private houses. A few dollars [unreadable word] will be well regained in actual increase of value, and trebly? In the good will of those who are benefited. Logan, Marc 7, 1991. X. |
