Mrs. Annie Naomi Peel Crockett, who passed to her final home on Monday, was in many ways a re ' markable woman, and had led a most eventful life. She was a .native of England, having been born in Bradford, Yorkshire, in 1847. When but a child she emi-- . grated with her parents to this country, crossing the plains with the handcart company in 1856, which experienced such- terrible suffering, Mrp. Crocketts father being one ot the victims of their privations they endured. He died of starvation just before reaching Salt Lake. Mrs. Crockett paosed through all the trials incident to life in Utah in its early settlement, and finally came to Lbgan in 1864, where she has remained ever since. She wa3 married to Alvin Crockett, in 1865 She leaves behind a family of five children, three daughters and two sons, all grown and three of them married. Throughout her entire life the deceased bore a spotless reputation . as an exemplary wife and fond mother, while her faith in the gospel had never wavered. For the past eight years of her life the was an invalid, and during recent years her sufferings had been most intense, but through it all she was patient and uncomplaining, and well merited the esteem and sympathy which has been accorded her by all who knew her. - TI1E FUNERAL. The Seventh ward meeting house was packed yesterday on the oc- casion of the funeral services. The speakers were Bishop B. M. Lewis, Elder J. M. Tanner and Bishop Larsen, who spoke in the order named. Some of the details of her life history, published in the above obituary, were referred to, and all bore testimony to the faithful nature of the deceased, and her patience during her long suffering. The Seventh ward choir sang impressively, and Mrs. Summerhays sang 0 My Father in an affecting manner. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful, and the funerai cortege was an unusually long one, Gene to the Hospital. Herman Vogel, the would-b- e suicide who 60 frightfully maimed himself on Monday, was taken to Salt Lake City on Tuesday, where he will be placed in St Marks hospital for treatment. Up to the time of his departure the wounded man had evinced no regret over his unseemly deed; in fact he made another attempt to TSi-WEEK- JOURNAL, LOGAN, OTAU MARCH 31 LY end his life on the evening of the day on which the tragedy occurred, by seizing a large knife and attempting to stab himself, u but he was promptly seized and disarmed by those who were watching him. He is possessed of the most remarkable endurance. On Tuesday he wrote several letters and the writing exhibited not the slightest trace of nervousness or weakness. Early in the morning of that day he arose and made preparations for obtaining the cup of coffee which he is ao customed to taking before going out in the morning, and in many other wayt gave evidence that the fearful wound inflicted upon himself had not weakened him. To the first suggestion of going to Salt Lake for treatment, he was decidedly averse; but upon the full situation being explained to him by the attending physicians, he finally consented to go. Before leaving he adjusted all his family difficulties, and empowered Mr. Kidgell to conduct bis business during his absence. Relatives of Mis. Vogel now claim that her husband did not! point the gun at her, although; that was the explanation given at the time of the tragedy. Accord-- ! iug to the latest and most authent- ic version, Mrs. Vogel seeing her' ffiusband leave the house, followed mtn and asked if the gun was loaded. He replied by asking her if she wanted to know, and then slammed the door of the bottling! , 8. Two Millions a Yeark When people buy, try, and bay again, it means theyretiened.
