The common man again will be able to buy gold to treasure it against financial uncertainties, uncer-tainties, according to a prediction made at the world conference on mineral resources by P. M. Ander-soi. Ander-soi. of Johannesburg, South Africa. About half the world's gold is produced pro-duced in South Africa, Anderson said in explaining the present gold situation. Its production, he predicted, pre-dicted, will run about 15 million fine ounces annually until about 1952 and after that may decline. For many years, he said, the rate of expansion of world economic activity and the production of gold have moved very much in step. "There is a rhythm," he explained, ex-plained, "in the production of gold in its relation to the total gold available avail-able and to the total economic activity, ac-tivity, which neither the ingenuity of man nor the intervention of governments gov-ernments has prevented. No Tampering. "This fact continues to commend gold as a monetary medium that cannot be tampered with, and is indeed a much stronger reason for its use than tradition or mythical faith in the metal, strong as that is. He also said: "Experience teaches the lesson that freedom of enterprise and the use of gold are closely related. Where there is little room left for freedom of enterprise, there is no room left for gold; where there is no gold there will hardly be any freedom of enterprise." enter-prise." Anderson said the buying of gold is reviving in Asia. There the trust of the people in the yellow metal has not diminished. India, recovered from an economic econom-ic depression, is certain to buy for a long time to come. China is on the point of becoming a buyer of gold. The Middle East will be able to acquire more gold. Asia Gets Half. If, said Anderson, governments permit, the peoples of Asia will ab sorb close to half the world production produc-tion of gold. He predicted the other half would go to peoples of the western west-ern world because the mistrust of fiat money is so strong among some of them. At present the world is using about one-third of the world production pro-duction for the fine arts. That compares com-pares with one-half for this purpose up to the end of the 20s. Anderson said he expected the consumption for the arts would rise again to one-half. He did not predict a time scale for any of the gold revival. He said the United States now has two-thirds of the world's monetary gold, Practically nothing is known, he said, of Russia's probable gold output, but there are estimates of a Russian production of three million and five million ounces a year. enfiemmml Celebration AT GRAND HISTORICAL 8:30 A. The Journal of the American Dental association advocated advo-cated that all dentists apply diluted solutions of sodium fluoride to the teeth of their child patients- as a means of diminishing tooth decay. The magazine said that results obtained from experimental studies were such that "the use of topically (directly) applied fluorides by the dentist now can be recommended as a general (decay) preventive measure." In previous articles, investigators reported decreases in the incidence of tooth decay as high as 40 per cent, following local applications of fluoride solutions to the teeth of children. chil-dren. However, the magazine added, present evidence indicated that the treatment was not effective' in protecting pro-tecting teeth of adults. The magazine said editorially that considerable work remained to be done in determining frequency of the applications and added that home use of fluoride solutions" "may not be without dangers." The procedure calls for four initial ini-tial treatments for each tooth with applications renewed on an annual or semi-annual basis.
