Day Program Including Parade and Rodeo Postponed One Day.--Big Celebration to Go Forth One Day Late. Lehi'a greatest of all celebrations, Sugar Day and Black Hawk Veterans Encampment, will go forth in spite of the down pour of rain which visited this section Wednesday morning. The entire Wednesday program of Parade, Rodeo, etc., will be carried out today (Thursday) as per the printed programs, parade at 10:00 a. m. and rodeo at. 2:30 p. m. Bands and all other features have been held over and the, big day's program will go forward, commencing with early dawn and closing at midnight today. The following two days, Friday and Saturday, will be crowded chuck full of fun and entertainment for thousands thous-ands of visitors together with local folks. GREAT CROWD ASSEMBLES In spite of the exceedingly hard downpour of ram . the city was a seething mass 'of people and automobiles automo-biles toy 9:30 a. m. yesterday and hundreds stuck out the storm, even after it had been decided that the big features, parade and rodeo, must he called off. The crowds drifted up and down Main street, filled the Memorial building build-ing and spread about town during the day. The morning meeting in the old Tabernacle was largely attended, the entire lower floor being filled. About 2 p. m. the sun forced its rays through the heavy clouds and soon brightened up the atmosphere sfid the spirits of the -visitors and townspeople. . Announcements were sent out to radio stations, newspapers and all other sources of information that the events would come off today and a real crowd is expected here for the three remaining days of the mammoth celebration. : , . - Vve have been squelched and disappointed dis-appointed for one day but that can't he helped now. Spirits of the committees com-mittees are up and the thought is ever prevalent, to "Carry On." . n o .... Three New Miniature i Golf Courses Open Up Three new miniature golf courses are being opened up at ' the present time in Lehi, namely the Wee Willie, located on State and Center Streets and operated by Bert and Art Beck, the Little Utah polf Course, located oa Main street on the former New West School House grounds and operated by Robert Phillips and another an-other course not yet named, on Main street just east of A. H. Wing's residence. This - course is operated by Hugh Otterson and A. H. Wing. All three courses are . highly up-to-date with the latest equipment and are built to provide good clean recreation for everyone interested. Made E. N. Jeweler and Optometrist "The Gift Shop" Rodeo Insurance To Be Collected ' The rain insurance policy of $1,500.00 taken out by the com- .', mittee to insure loss in just such an imergency will be collected col-lected according to Chairman Joseph Anderson. The policy insured the committee against loss up to $1,500.00 providing .1 of an inch of rain fell between be-tween the hours of , 12 and 3 p. m. on Wednesday, August 13. Official government measurements mea-surements taken at the grounds show that from 12 until 3 more than .31 inches of moisture fell and at 4 p; m. water was still standing on the rodeo grounds Ruth Evans Chosen As Queen of Beet Sugar Day The queen of Beet Sugar Day was chosen from a large number of contestants con-testants at, the official queen's ball, held last Wednesday evening at Saratoga. Sara-toga. The contest, that has been in session for the past three weeks, continued con-tinued all during the dance. It proved very interesting and exciting and when the final votes were counted results re-sults showed Mrs. Ruth Evans far in the lead. Miss Helen Davis came second and was chosen to represent "Mi9 Lel'.4n -the parade. As a gift to the queen, Mrs. Evans was presented with a gorgeous 29-piece 29-piece set o,f community silverware with a mirror tray. ; O Work At Scranton Mine Is Getting Well Under Way Sinking of a shaft at the scranton mine is to be begun by August 15, according to information from the North Tintic property. The contract con-tract has been awarded and surface equipment, Including compressor and hoists has been Installed. A power line has been run to the mine by the Utah Power and Light Company. The shaft will be sunk to find tr faulted segment of the Scranton ore body), which 25 years' ago produced a large tonnage of zinc-lead ore from a bedded replacement deposit .In the limestone. by Vrefield Witch Co- N. Y., WEBB Alpine School District Teachers Placement Complete The placing of this year's teachers in the various schools of the Alpine School District was just completed at the superintendent's office. Many of the district's former teachers are again contracted for this year, but the list shows that a number of newcomers new-comers are added to the teaching personnel. per-sonnel. Ingles of Salt Lake City, visit ed In Lehi during the Black Hawk Local Lions Hear Report of International Convention A detailed report of the Lions International Inter-national Convention, held recently Jn Denver was given by Frank Sharp Thursday evening to the members of the local Lions Club at their regular bi-monthly meeting and luncheon, held in the new "Hotel Lehi." His report was very interesting. He related several items of vast importance, to the Lehi Lions. ' A committee was appointed with Dr. D. R. Mitchell, chairman; to arrange a float for Sugar Beet Day. Austin Gudmundsen furnished two vocal selections and a saxaphone quartet rendered two numbers. Mrs. Genevieve Gray and Mrs. Jennie Wanlass, the new managers of the hotel, served a delicious banquet. Annual Beet Tour Tuesday, August 19th The Fourth Annual Beet Tour of the Utah-Idaho Sugar Company in connection con-nection with the Beet Growers Association As-sociation will commence at the County Court House at Provo, August the 19th at 8 : 00 o'clock sharp, and continue con-tinue north to Lehi where a delicious dinner will be served at the Fifth ward meeting house at 12:30 o'clock. It is expected there will be in attendance attend-ance two doctors from the A. C. College at Logan, who will give out valuable information in regard to the various diseases and pests of beets and other crops. McQuarrie Speaks At I Union Meeting Sunday The regular monthly Priesthood-Re-! lief Society Union meeting held Sun-1 day afternoon at 2 p. m. in the Second J ward chapel wa3 well attended and much enjoyed. The congregation sang as the opening number, "Now Let Ui Rejoice," after which Eiisha Davis offered the opening prayer. The preliminary program consisted of a duet by Miriam and Mildred Whipple, accompanied by Mrs. Marjorie Clark; a vocal duet by Mrs. Rose Lott and daughter, Barbara, accompanied by Miss Lucile Anderson and a vocal solo by Mrs. Grace Webb, accompanied by Oleve Kittinger. Pres. John McQuarrie of Salt Lake City, who was former president of the Eastern States Mission was in attendance attend-ance and gave a wonderful talk. He spoke on the "International Relation ship of Europe and America," and "This is the Place." His talk was much appreciated. No department work was held, as the various classes remained to hear the lecture given by Pres. McQuarrie. "Put Your Shouldnr To The Wheel,'-' was the closing song. Anderson is spending this week with' her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Fagan. Mr. and Mrs. An derson are moving from Ogden to Logan to make their home. Mrs. Cora Hunger spent WedneS' day, Thursday and Friday of last week visiting with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Harper of Pleasant Grove. Following Follow-ing are the delegates from thin city who attended: Mr. and Mrs. Ernest W. Larsen, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Robinson Mr. and Mrs. Ted Booth, Mr. Clinton Harris and Mr. Jack Whipple. A goregous parade was staged Fri day evening at 7:00 p. m. as part of the convention. The Lehi members entered a beautiful float and had the distinct honor of winning .first place. The float repesented Flandes Field and was decorated as the memorial with rows o,f poppies ' and crosses. Everyone who viewed the parade will remember this float. We feel it Is a distinct honor when our town can go into a sister community of a larger population and captivate a coveted honor of this sort. Both the Legion and the Auxiliary elected new officers for the coming year and delegates and committeemen to attend the national convention- to be held this year at Boston. The election took place in jthe closing session Saturday. Ernest W. Larsen of this city was elected a delegate to attend the National Convention at Boston. Park City was the'winner in a four-cornered four-cornered fight for the 1931 convention city. ; : -: Those attending from Lehi report a splendid convention. Miss Velda Carson spent last week in Salt Lake City, visiting with her grandmother, Mrs. Rachel Carson.
