Show Donut Falls: Adventure for the whole family By Brian Brinkerhoff Outdoors Correspondent A short, refreshing hike skirts Mill D South Fork Creek to Donut Falls, making it a popular destination for kids of all ages. This rugged little canyon, shaded with pine and quaking aspen, is a fascinating location to visit and has much to offer for families, visiting the area. From the small creek above, water can be seen rushing into what appears to be a round donut hole, carved in stone. It then splashes out below, cascading over the boulders and spraying a cool mist to visiting hikers. These falls are very secluded and cannot be seen until you climb down into the narrow canyon and feel the refreshing mist, spraying from the falls. Lush green vegetation surrounds the waterway and children chatter with excitement as the falls are first, viewed. A few minor challenges keep the trail interesting, including the short to the river bottom drop-obelow the falls, where your destination can finally be viewed. Children and elderly folks may need some help around this maneuvering obstacle. Equally impressive as the remarkable endpoint is the journey to the falls.
