(International) 1881, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Pavlock, of St. Benedict, Pa., were married in the Church of the Blessed Virgin in Bossburg, Pa. Seventy years later, their anniversary story becomes an alike. Martin Pavlock, now and oldly-we- ds inspiration to newly-we92, came to the U.S. from Poland with his parents. Mrs. Pavlock, now 89, was born Mary Isban, and also came from Poland. Pavlock became a coal miner, retiring in 1916 after a mine accident that later caused him to lose a leg. They are the parents of 17 children, 12 of whom are living. Then there are those that insist their summery mood Is Invoked by even thoughts of a ripe, spicy barbecue sauce. So, for such folk, and all who would like to keep the culinary flavor of summer around as long as possible, here is a new recipe, one for Barbecued Hamburger Stacks, to give It full billing. Budget-Wis- e Stacks For 5 stacks that are budget-wis- e and delicious to boot, com2 bine c. (one pound) hamburger, Yz tsp. salt and Ya tsp. pepper. Shape mixture into 10 meat balls; place on sheet of waxed paper, each 3 Inches apart, covering with another sheet of the waxed paper. Flatten meat balls into patties, approximately 3 Inches in diameter. Next, combine 4 c. soft bread cubes, 4 c. hot milk, one beaten egg, c. melted fat or meat drippings, Y tsp. salt, Ya tsp. pepper and 2 tbsp. chopped onion. Shape into 5 patties about 3 inches in diameter. Then comes the tangy sauce. Barbecue Sauce Melt Y c. shortening or meat drippings in a skillet. Bake in 375 F. oven for 30 min., occasionally basting stacks with barbecue sauce. Recommended any time of the year to bring on, fight off, nostalgia for summer! Something Different Bread and Meat SoufflS next, not expensive and very rewarding, as well as offering something different. To serve 6, combine 2 c. (one pound! ground, cooked meat, U4 tsp. salt, Ya tsp. pepper and beaten egg yolks. Melt 2 tbsp. shortening in a small skillet, then add Y c. chopped onion. Cook for 5 min. Pour lYz c. scalded milk over 3 c. soft bread cubes (Yz Combine meat mixture with bread and milk. Fold in 4 stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour Into casserole, set greased casserole In pan of hot water, anc bake at 350 F. for one hour. lVfc-Qu- art |
