The unidentified pilot of this got a signal to cut throttle when he anticipated a wave-of- f lucky from the landing signal officer from the USS Princeton, so he dove for the deck. The plane hit the deck at an angle and engaged an arresting wire so violently that it broke in half. The front end churned through three barriers before coming to rest. TWO-POIN- T F-6- -F SURVIVOR PRAYS FOR VICTIM . . . Funeral services were held recently for George Flores, Brooklyn boxer who died following his knockout at Madison Square Garden in the eighth round of a semi-fin- al bout with Roger Donoghue. Flores rests here in his coffin. At the side of the coffin is Carmine Vingo, New York boxer, who, like Flores, lapsed into a coma after being knocked out a year ago, but survived. Vingo is praying for the soul of the less fortunate fighter. . . . One of two Russian soldiers who stormed into the U.S. sector of Berlin, fired their pistols and knocked down a woman before seizure by American M.P.s, manages with great effort to walk to the M.P. jeep. lie is a senior lieutenant. The Russians drove a Soviet car and were apparently drunk. They claimed to be fleeing from the Soviet zone and claimed the bullet holes in their car were from guns of Russian border guards. RUSSIAN III-JIN- INDONESIAN CADETS . . ., The Republic of Indonesia has sent some of its air force to an air academy in California for training in the little nations program for modeling its air force on that of the U.S. Here, an Indonesian student is helped into his parachute by an instructor, as another student climbs into his plane. Dogfights are part of the 46 weeks course. Sixty cadets were sent to California by Indonesia after extensive examinations. Course costs about $10,000 per man. Huge crowds waited in halls of San Francisco Opera House for chance at seats during Japanese Treatv conference. Auditorium seats only 300. |
