The colorful artist, whose con- ducting of symphony orchestras around the vorld has raised more than $6 million in retirement benefit funds, will make an encore appearance in Salt Lake City May 5, when he leads the Utah Symphony off on another wild musical journey. Kaye, whose association with the Utah Symphony director Maurice Abravanel dates back more than 40 years, held a press conference at Symphony. Hall recently, and he exclaimed I'm delighted to be back in Salt Lake City, while hugging Abravanel warmly. Kaye reminisced how he had met Abravanel in the beginning, of World War II. In 1940 I did a play called Lady in the Dark, and who was in the pit leading the orchestra but Maurice Abra- vanel, beamed the artist, veteran of radio, television, film and Broadway. Now in his 70s, Kaye sparkles with enthusiasm as he recounts his tong career in the performing arts. One of his secrets of happiness, he said, is that he never grew up. His conducting of symphony and orchestras can be child-like, at the same time be serious and a model of Kayes perfectionism in everything he does. The May 5 appearance is not the first time Kaye will be conducting the orchestra. He made his first appearance with the Utah Symphony in 1979 when he conducted the orchestra before a PLANTS LASTING COLOR YEAR AFTER YEAR -- experienced ' pitot with more than 3,000 hours of flight time;, he has flown 747s and DC 10s.
