Show ,6B Lakeside Review South, Wednesday, March 21, 1984 Accept Nominations 'i rv Make a Clear Outline w ' The state of Utah is accepting nominations for the Governors Awards for Excellence in Energy . Innovation". The awards provide recognition of significant conservation and renewable energy achievements in Utah that demonstrate potential or actual energy Manage Time for Daily Efficiency the mate is a desirable time lotment, he said. Children would naturally follow the time for spouse and he said that women and men should look at the time spent on and for children, then organize appropriately. Some people spend too much time, he said, adding that often it is easy to become a slave" to children and begin doing so much for the kids that we neglect the kids." Other he added dont spend enough time with their children to develop strong ties and good relationships. Following the individual, the spouse, and the children in his suggested priorities are religious duties and church service, commitments to a job, whether outside or inside the home, and political and community service. Keep them (the priorities) straight," he said. If you find you are putting too much time into one area, you need to re- vamp your schedule." After priorities are set, his actual scheduling takes place using four key items to run an effective and efficient system. The prime item used is an ordinary file box which houses individual folders, one for each day of the month and one for each month of the year. , In each of the 31. folders he places a sheet of paper with the date, the day of the week and space to list the things he must do, another column for things that would be good to do and a section at the bottom for gripes, comments, notes, and unspeakable things." If he does not complete all on the must do" and good to do lists then they can be transferred to the following days list. The section for the comments, gripes, etc., is used to record thoughts or reactions he has had through the day. For mothers, this section can be a real boom and a memory aid in recording the cute things children say that would be special to remember or important firsts in their lives such as first step, first lost tooth, al " LYNDIA GRAHAM Review Correspondent Whether a person is single. married, male or female, no chil-- i dren or many, each of us has the same amount of time each day 'in which to live and accomplish daily duties. David Christensen' told a group of Davis County home-- ; .makers that often better time .. management will lead to more efficient organization of time. Christensen works for the LDS Church in Salt Lake City where n . .he and his wife and four live. He has worked for the LDS Seminary and Institute pro-- I grams for the church and often J4.lectures at Brigham Young Uni-- . versity Education Week. He said that time management is almost a necessity for both i men and women but that if a , woman is married and has chil-- ; dren she must be super orga-- . nized in our day and age." Too often women begin the . day like a chick coming out of a shell. After partially emerging and seeing what is in store for the day, they would like to close the shell back up around them and just forget it, he said. . Some start the day with a high ; level of commitment to doing Twhat they should but they have ;a low competency level in actually organizing and achieving their goals. Others, he said, have ; a high level of competency but not the level of commitment to . ; chil-jdre- , : . . realize their potential in organizing and managing their time. "There are people with all shades of this, from high com-- , mitment and low competency to just the opposite," he said. We all want to do better, but often just don't know how." A clear outline of what is expected is the finest guarantee of dedicated service, he said. He indicated that without a schedule no one can know what to expect throughout the day. In ordpr to determine if people are busy or effective, he suggested that each person needs to take a look at his or her life and set some priorities. He offered six areas of priorities and added that each person needs to put them, or 'other priorities in the order .that they feel best about. First on his list is personal well being. How can you accomplish anything for others unless your taking care of yourself? he asked. We often think of time management as allowing us more time to accomplish things better but that isnt necessarily so. It Christensen said that merely "being busy" shouldnt allow a person to feel that he or she is accomplishing throughout the day. But Christensen said that even with all of the tasks thaPneed to be done throughout a day anyone can become a better time manager. Good time management is essentially good planning and self discipline, he said. should allow us time to think read, write, time for self. Thats not being selfish, either. Next he suggested time for developing a better relationship with a spouse.
