Show Last Wednesday Was a Relaxing Day for Nelson Last Wednesday was a kick-bac- k day for Viewmont High junior Mike Nel' son. Nothing much to do except go to school, play 18 holes of state tournament golf at the Glendale Golf Course and then change into running clothes and run three miles in the Region Four meet. True most people (dont get that much exercise in, a month of Wednesdays, but for Nelson it was a break in his normal, rigorous routine. Rigorous might well be too kind of word to describe Nelsons typical day. He reports to first period, a conditioning class, and works out for the y season. He attends class, of course, for the next few hours and hits the golf course after school to practice with the schools team. And somewhere in those long afternoons, Nelson will again work out for running in the, foothills occasionally or maybe working on some hurdles. . cross-count- ry cross-countr- cross-countr- y, - The Darts will get a solid team no mat- actly suppressants for him. get so much more nervous before y than golf, said Nelson. What is special about Nelson is that he does both sports well.. Take last Wednesday for example. After shooting a 75 in the state golf tournament, Nelson lounged around the course for a while, just to see how eventual tournament winner Jeff Pierce of East would do. state finish tuckWith a second-plac- e Nelson then ed away, proceeded to Park for the Region Four meet. He assured Nelson he would only have to work out once or twice a week, and that he could golf the majority of the time. But working out only once or twice a week soon extended into daily workouts and training in the summer. And although Nelson admits there is a dump-truc- k load of tension on the golf meets are not ex course, cross-countr- cross-count- ry cross-countr- cross-count- ry cross-countr- y workouts to his day hasnt hurt Nelson's game.
