Show 4D lakeside Raview North, Wedneiday, Apr. 20, 1983 In Davis County Group to Battle Molestation Educating the public on the problem of sexual molestation of children and preventing recurrences of the crime are the goals of a chapter of concerned citizens calliig themselves SLAM. The group, Society's League Against Molesters, has lobbied the Utah State Legislature on House Bill 209, encouraged strong penalties in child molestation cases and passed out leaflets to get their point across to the public. Our goal is to educate the public on the sexual molestation of children, said Pat Wimpee, president of Davis County SLAM. We want to help victims by getting therapy for them and making sure offenders dont do it again. Most offenders newly-forme- d admit they were sexually abused as children so we want to try to break that cycle. SLAM had its public meeting April 7. Approximately IS people attended. The chapters next meeting will have . Pistrict Judge Stanton M. Taylor as a guest speaker on May 5. Currently, the Salt Lake chapter of SLAM has 112 members. A SLAM chapter has begun in Provo and Mrs. Wimpee hopes there will be enough interest in the Ogden area to start a chapter there. Mrs. Wimpee noted that Davis County has the highest rate of child sexual molestation cases in the state. Mrs. Wimpee invites anyone interested in attending a SLAM meeting to call her at f . Davis Piano Students to Compete Davis County piano students BOUNTIFUL will have an opportunity to gain recognition April 23 as they compete in the Student Achievement Program sponsored by the Davis Chapter of Utah Music Teachers Association. According to Elaine Holbrook, Student Achievement Chairman, 360 students will play two different pieces in assigned teachers homes, with 12 judges reviewing. The students will perform at the Viewmont 4-He- rs High School Seminary Saturday and be judged on their ability to do the scales, their technique at non-prof- it ; ia 17 -- V s, the keyboard and reading. The competition is a motivational stimulus for the piano students, but there will be two who will be asked to play at the Utah Music Teachers Convention in f ovember. Since its beginning in 1942, the organization has placed over 4,000 guide dogs for residence training free of charge.
