Show 10 Tuesday, April 28, 1992 LAKESIDE Lakeside Review Lakeside Home From page 2 thing else. Several cubby holes used for storage are throughout the house. The kitchen originally had only two cupboards on either side of the old sink and have since been replaced by cupboards throughout the kitchen. A desk was built in the original kitchen doorway. Barbara Stephenson has decorated the home with family furniture that originally no one wanted. She stripped and refinished much of the furniture in the home herself. Other antique pieces have been purchased and many have also been refin-ished. "It was always fun to see the beauty of furniture as I stripped off the old varnish and paint." she said. She also found an old brass bed for her daughter Julie's room. "It was so brown and bad that I didnt even know if it was really brass." said Barbara. It took a lot of work and polish to uncover the brass." She has also sewn most of the window coverings to add to the antique look of the home. One of the bathrooms has a sink mounted in an old sewing machine cabinet with a Formica top for the counter. The other bathroom sink is in a converted antique dresser. The family has unearthed old clay marbles, bricks and other items in the ard. While digging the footings to add on the garage, they found an old well. The back yard has a large old willow tree that the children built a. treehousc in. "The poor house shivers and shakes whenever a new family moves in because of all the changes that have been made," said Barbara Stephenson. Theres not another home just exactly like it because of all the remodeling that has been done. It has been a comfortable home to raise our family in and to share it with our family and friends as we have entertained." she said.
