We just want Kaysville to come out and support it, Melco Electronics President Mel Fehlman said, noting many people had expressed anger over the possibility that Fehlman might discontinue operation of said. Fehlman is trying to mend strained relations with residents of Kaysville, some of whom have been hostile and suspicious since the day he arrived. Beginning with $3,000 and a small leased office at 51 N. Main Street 18 months the ago, businessman has expanded his theater. We talked about closing the theater down, not knowing what a concern it was of the city, explained Melco Electronics General Manager Larry King. They asked us to keep it open and weve decided to . . . Fehlman did consider shutting down the movie establishment and using it to store electronics equipment for his adjacent Melco Electronics Distributor business, but a vocal upsurge of support for the theater quickly changed his mind. We dont need a big, vast space (for our stock), Fehlman decided. It rolls in and out practically the same day. To obtain more room for his large electronics equipment sales force, Fehlman has just leased the Villager Professional Building a few doors away. Well move our executive offices there, he said. . . . Mainly, we need administrative space. Fehlman will take over operation of the Kaysville movie theater Oct. 31 when the lease of current operator Gerald Perry expires. He had been renting it to Perry for $700 a month, not enough to even pay the heat, and figured he would lose less money if he ran the place himself. The Kaysville resident said he plans to remodel the theatre, rebuild its operation to encompass about one-thir- d of the entire block opposite City Hall. His Melco Electronics Distribution Center there now grosses about $5 million a year and employs more than 40 people, according to Fehlman. Fehlmans sphere of influence extends from 47 to 17 N. Main Street, much of which he purchased from Paul Lambert a year ago, and the remainder of which he leases. In addition to Melco Electronics Distribution Center, which wholesales consumer electronics gear to small dealers all over the country, the , buildings house BJ Associates, a manufacturing representative firm largely owned by Fehlman. A Melco Electronics retail store, one of seven in the area owned by the businessman, is just two doors away.. We have to let people know Melco is here as a benefit, not as a detriment to them, Fehlman said. When (before) Melco occupied this building, it was vacant in its entirety. The buildings were suitable for condemnation. Ive put in over $135,000 in improvements. He hopes his decision to keep Kaysville Theatre open will convey that message to Kaysville. d MEL FEHLMAN, a Kaysville businessman, owns or leases about the frontage across from City Hall on North Main Street between Center Street and 100 North Street, Kaysville. That property includes Kaysville one-thir- of Theatre, which people have feared Fehlman would close down. He now says he will keep the theatre open. mssssam THE MOST ACCLAIMED LDS MUSICAL OF ALL TIME SEEN BY OVER 1 Vi MILLION PEOPLE PROFESSIONAL TOURING COMPANY OGDEN ONI PMPORMANCK ONLYI 20 -- 8:00 P.M.
