They paid .far more than the appraisal for one piece of property. The properties purchased are as follows: They paid $85,000 for the Gier-isWest 200 property at South, containing .61 of an acre. They paid $447,000 for the Bountiful Medical Building at 11 South 100 West, no appraisal was made until after the property was purchased. They paid $50,000 for the Russel Fusse property at 60 West 100 South, containing .15 acre. Lexers to ffoe Editor Strange Double Standard Drill Teams Work Hard Review Editor: We have a strange double standard situation arising in Bountiful, and who else would be in the thick of it but the Redevelopment Agency (RDA). The mayor and council, all elected and supposedly believing in the voting process, dont want to tie the future of the Bountiful RDA to an election. Some time ago in the meetings at the junior high schools that were held to indoctrinate us all on RDA procedures and g dreams, a highly informal was done. The rather inconclusive results were paraded at a meeting and then shelved. Now, a more formal, indeed potent sampling of Bountiful residency is possible, and the mayor, city attorney, and RDA executive director all have their backs up about it. Granted, the last years action has been about 95 percent unfavorable for the RDA, but where is the confidence of those- - earlier meetings? Has City Hall lost its gambling spirit? Randy Sant, executive director, is disappointed that the initiative sponsors didnt come to him with their grievances. Did the RDA set any kind of example of going to concerned parties first to let them in on the actions proposed? Hardly, mum has been the word, closed meetings much of the action. Review Editor: In response to the article by Kent Somers, Page IB, May 25, called "Trivial Awards That Didnt Make the Banquets" I would like to say that all drill team members who work so hard and diligently for so many hours over the weeks, months and years should be very highly commended! They are energetic, enthusiastic, peppy, youthful, very hard workers! They are competitive, people who learn early that hard work and long practice make excellent results! They are sparkling, fresh, darling girls! Their leaders are to be thanked and greatly appreciated also. They give so much time and energy to their specialty which teaches pol-lin- The news articles report the mayor as having the attorneys looking into the legality of the initiative petition, presumably to block it if possible. Layne Forbes, city attorney, terms the initiative "not proper," and has sent an opinion to the Utah Attorney General. What was not proper was the council setting up as an RDA in the first place without having gone to an election process. If the initiative wins at the polls but is overthrown in legal how maneuvering, "proper will it be for the city to continue on its merry way with an RDA? We would like to thank everyone the performers to be precise, accurate and to do superior work. All those mentioned are in shape physically because of their rigorous drills and exercises and their minds are also sharpened! Many thanks to the people who like to improve themselves and also give enjoyment to the audiences who come to be entertained. The earlier that the girls start to learn drill, the better! We should all be so dedicated to a good cause! I am a mother of a former Chatelle with (hopefully) another one coming up. Our Chatelle was also a member of the super Woods Cross High Marching Band. R.J. Holgreen Bountiful track record in management of he would turn things around. I wonder how much more we taxpayers can stand? He has pre- sented a budget showing tax revenue for this year and has budgeted $137,800 for his office. This amount seems to be excessive. The money is to be used for him and his secretaries' salaries, and to pay for the RDA board members travel, planning and other costs associated with his office. He has already, in his short time in office, been to a workshop in Seattle with the director of our planning department at a cost of over $1,100. The RDA should be abandoned as soon as possible, it has not worked in Bountiful. The costly mistakes made by in the handling of the motel project on 500 South 500 West by Bountiful and Woods Cross is a good example of government ineptness in matters that should be left for businessmen in the private sector, who know what they are doing and who are spending their own money. The management of the tax funds is a fiasco. Our taxes should be cut substantially or the money could be used for our school system to help reduce class sizes, etc. With the help of the many talented citizens of our community and our present planning department, we can do all that is needed to encourage the growth of commercial development in our city.
