Roy 13 Bountiful - 7 -- I forgot to keep stats, smiled Coach Ernie Jacklin of Roy, but we beat Bountiful on their turf, and thats enough statistics for me. Linebacker Jay Winward was responsible for both of Roys touchdowns. He intercepted a pass on the Roy 27 yard line, picked up a blocker at mid-fiel- d and ran all the way to pay-diwith 59 seconds left in the half. Graham McFarlane kicked the extra point, and the Royals took a 0 lead to the locker room. The Braves came back in the third quarter to score their own touch down, and tied the game at seven, but then Winward picked off another pass; this one a deflection at the Bountiful ten yard line, and he ran it back to the six. A penalty put the ball on the three yard line, and Wade Jacklin hit Brad McCaulley in the end zone for six points. Jones will definitely miss her superstar athlete who earned a pretty fair scholarship in athletics. But opClearfield posing lady volleyball coaches around Region One may breathe a little easier this season. Davies had never started a varsity game before last week against Ben Lomond, but now appears primed for her final year. Joyce made improvement this past summer that no one dreamed possible. She probably made as much progress in one summer as she did in the past two combined together, admitted the Clearfield mentor. She gained much of her experience after starting in most of Clearfield's games over the past season. She is tough on the back row, one of the best weve got back there, stated Jones. Two juniors, Jody Tillman and Lori Hutchison are consistent prep players and will be used regularly in the Gearfield lineup. The only sophomore in the Gearfield lineup is Danise Wood. Jones says she is impressed with her skills and learning ability. WSC Women Open '80 Season Sept. 13 . Weber States 1980 womens volleyball team opens season play on match Sept. 13, in a against Brigham Young University at 7:30 p.m. in Wildcat Gym. The 1980 squad returns nine experienced players from last years squad (five seniors, three juniors and one sophomore) plus three new freshmen. Returning seniors include Cindee Secrist (55), Penny Wanberg (57), Annette Reinig (56), Karen Porter (59) and Shauna Christensen (59). Returning juniors include Diane Rich, Janice Garner and Jill Avery (all Out59 tall). Rich was the 1979-8standing Volleyball Player at Weber State and led the team in attacks with a .401 kill percentage. Melanie Mansfield (58) is the single sophomore returning to the volleyball squad. Newcomers to the team this season are freshmen Karen Nielsen (59) from Provo High School, Robin Burton (57) from Alta High School in Sandy, Utah, and Kristen Frazier (57") from Weber High School. Season tickets are now available for the five home volleyball matches for $10. Season passes can be purchased at the Ticket Office in the Dee Events Center. General admission'at the door will be $3 for adults and $1.50 for students high school and under with I.D. cards.
