I was wondering about them too, and when they first became available in my home area, I asked the owner of the grocery where I did most of my shopping what he knew about them. He was honest with me and said that they were new to him too, but he would write to his supplier and see what he could find out. He wanted to sell only quality products to his customers and learning about the quality of these new types of products would be to his advantage too. A few weeks later he said that it was his Center. I use a sharp pointed, washable pencil that I put through the hole and turn to make a dot. I do this through every hole, and then just move the template to complete the design. Some people use tracing paper or sewer's chalk but sometimes these patterns move on the material for me and my designs are not exact. I know my own weaknesses and compensate for them. If you find that you prefer tracing paper and you can use it accurately, by all means use it. It is a little cheaper, but on large areas, like a quilt top, I find I make mistakes when I try to use them. When you do the actual quilting be sure to use quilting thread as it is waxed and is easy to sew very small, neat stitches with. I generally use only white thread, but quilting thread comes in many colors if you want to do each color of your quilt in the color of the individual blocks. In case you are wondering how to keep from having a lot of knots showing on the back of your quilt, make a small knot in the end of the thread, push the needle from the back of the quilt to the top, and gently tug on the thread until the knot pops through the backing into the filler and you will never have a knot Toni Bosgieter has been installed as president of the Lakeview Chapter of Utah Homemakers. He advised that I try them myself in some of my favorite recipes. He was sure that I would not find much difference if any, between them and the brands I was used to buying. He was interested in my reaction as others wanted to try the few that he had on the shelves and he needed to decide whether to stock the many items that were becoming available. I tried a variety of them and honestly, once I got over the idea that only Name Brand X would work in my favorite casserole, I purchased noname brands whenever I could. You will have to decide for yourself whether you want to use them or not, but for myself, I have found nothing wanting in them. I know I have asked for your comments before, but I really would appreciate hearing from you about this, especially if you have any adverse comments. Those products are becoming so prevalent that you could do a service to a lot of shoppers if you would share your findings with all of us. Thanks in advance for your help. How is the quilting coming? Havent given up already, I hope. My youngest son is getting married in March and hopefully I will have mine done by then to give him and his new bride for a wedding present. I have the top all pieced, ready to put together with the filler and back. Now comes the intricate part, the actual quilting. When we moved here I left my quilting frame with my other daughter-in-law- , so one of the first things I need to buy is a new frame. I plan to start the actual quilting this next week, and I will really have to work a lot of evenings to get it done by March. I am working on making the templates for the quilting markings and Australian Shepherds Pie Recipes should not be merely copies of others printed in commercial cookbooks.
