SEND for those cash refunds on a regular basis. This week I received a letter in which the question was asked as to what to do with the labels from store brand foods, whether to save them or not. The only thing I can say is that to my knowledge there are no refund offers using store brand labels. Only the national brands offer refunds and they accept only the proof-o- f purchase from their own brands. The way you save by buying the store brands or generic brands is through lower prices. Sometimes the national brands will be lower if the store has a special on a particular item. If there is also a refund on offer using the that same item, you can save two ways. You get it cheaper to start with and you can purchase enough items to send in the required qualifiers for a current refund. I never save the labels from store brands because there are no refund offers on them. The reader also stated that she had a lot of labels and qualifiers that she did not know what to do with; that they just kept piling up and she didnt seem to get any refund offers using them. It is my belief that you cannot be a good refunder by yourself. It is almost mandatory that you either subscribe to not just one but several refunder newsletters or belong to a club or group of other refunders so you can swap qualifiers and refund offers. As I have said before, I do not publish a newsletter nor do I represent any particular one. But I do recommend that you belong to at least one. The cost is minimal approximately $10 to $15 per year. The benefits for a serious refunder are countless. You have ac- proof-of-purcha- New Mexico State University. You can swap qualifiers with many serious refunders and exchange ideas and questions with them. Also they help you keep your interest going when you get discouraged. ; I dont think I should list any specific newsletters in this column, but if you will write to me, I have a book that lists several of them and I will be glad to pass the information on to you. Speaking of books, there are at least three (and certainly more) on the market that are full of excellent ideas and information on couponing and refunding. Several of these authors have been on television and really know ! what they are doing. These people make their living couponing and refunding and have worked out marvelous systems of using all the methods of realizing the most for their efforts. I refer to a couple of them often. The main reason for couponing and refunding is to realize the most for our money. This means that we have to use every means available to us, whether it is a newsletter, swapping club, letters with friends or relatives, comparitive shopping, buying in bulk, or whatever I way we like best. Most of all we must be observant to savings and consistent in our efforts to use all these ways of getting the. most for our money. How we do it; what method we use and how diligent we are is up to each of us. What works for one, may not be right for another. But whatever way you decide is right for you, try it, and then refine it. Work out the parts of it that discourage you and try another way. If you are good at letter writing, perhaps the newsletter route is for you. If you belong to numerous clubs and like working personally with people, maybe the swapping person to person is for you. Whether you like record keeping or not, you will soon find that you must keep some records of what refund on page 2B new 1985 W. 5600 So.
