If people could learn to manage their stress, they could avoid unnecessary visits to the hospital. Berthold points to one case in particular that was caused by stress and seemingly had doctors baffled until Berthold was called in. A middle-agewoman was brought to the hospital with what she thought was a heart attack. But doctors couldnt find anything vrong with her. She had paralysis down the left side of her arm and was in tremendous pain. She was placed in the intensive care unit for two or three business was badly in debt and he had taken out a third mortgage on the family home. The business went under and the sheriff came and put a lock on her door because the home was being repossessed. Her son came home early from an LDS Mission because of all of the difficult circumstances developing at home. A short time later he was convicted on a felony drug charge. There are also elements in each persons lives known as stressors. These fall under two categories. Emotional stressors include family relationships, a death of someone close, etc. Physical stressors include illness, tiredness, sex, diet, etc. There are also old stressors that come back to our memories from the past and affect the present. An example of an old stressor is a lady who became very depressed. It was Farmington Man Gets Certificate HILL AIR FORCE BASE Douglas F. If the bowl keeps loading with .stressors, it spills, Berthold said. This can result in dysfunctional behavior which can be t emotional or physical. Drug abuse, suicide attempts, depression, hypochondria, are all types of dysfunctional be- havior. People who think they are strong by keeping their emotions locked inside are really filling their bowl of anxiety, which when full, will eventually overflow causing dysfunctional behavior. How do you empty your bowl of anxiety? Berthold recommends a variety of methods. Biofeedback relaxation exercises can be effective for some people. Recreation, crying, laughing, love, anger, talking, can also be effective. Berthold says there are literally hundreds of ways of releasing stress. The trick is to find the one which is right for you. And if you cant find the right one, Berthold said youre welcome to call him at the hospital. CRAIG BERTHOLD discusses the problems of stress with one of his patients. Craig works with people who have so much stress that their problems become manifested in physical ailments. 1 TO LESS "NUTRISYSTEM PLE DIET THAT -- DON FOOT KAYSVILLE, UTAH IS A FAST AND SIMWORKS.
