LIGON Lately, we have been talking about high blood pressure; its definition, its significance, and its incidence of occurrence. There remains much to be said about it. Let's continue a general discussion. THE circulatory system of the body has as its main objective the transportation of blood containing oxygen and nutriment to all the organs and other parts of the body. The arteries carry blood to the parts. The veins return blood from these parts for reoxygenation in the lungs and recycling by the heart pump. THE damaging effects of high blood pressure are brought about through this same circulatory system. The long term target organs affected by hypertension through the circulatory system are the eyes, kidneys, brain, heart and major blood vessels. Generally, the kidneys. In 1967 they returned to Kaysville and built their home next to the Flint home in west Kaysville. Barbara worked in the Dav is School District as a librarian for nine years. She now helps her husband in his construction firm. They are the parents of two boys and two girls. They are both active in the LDS Church and enjoy family activities of snow mobiling and boating. Pressure brain and eyes are affected on a circulatory basis, each organ requiring blood supply in its most efficient form. Over the years, if the circulation is not up to par. slow and gradual de- terioration takes place because of the arteriosclerosis encouraged by hypertension. Ultimately, that organ can fail! DAMAGE TO the heart takes place in two ways. Heart muscle strain occurs secondary to the increased work load. The heart simply has to work harder and gets less rest as a result of the higher resistance to the pumping action. The other damaging way is again circulatory: the development of arteriosclerosis in the coronary arteries ( the arteries that supply the heart). Hypertensive damage can lead to coronary artery disease and ultimate heart failure and other conditions of the heart. YOU CAN imagine, therefore. that the long term effects of high blood pressure can be just as deadly and serious as (hose of an acute, sudden and extensive stroke. i i f.lapr Lewis Sliiolils At the Saturday morning breakfast meeting at the Main Street Station Restaurant, Lewis Glenn Shields. Layton mayor, discussed the East Layton-Layto- n merger. THE AUDITS are not yet complete. However, it is becoming clear that the merger will involve considerable cost to Layton city. For example. Layton city recently was informed by the IRS that a deficiency in withheld income taxes for East Layton city employees was owed for one of the quarters of 1979. This was settled for about $1700. ADDITIONAL personnel will be required by the police department in order to provide police protection to East Layton residents. In the mean- time. the county sheriff is continuing to provide police protection under the agreement between the county and East Layton city. It remains to be determined where needed funds will be raised to provide a new substation. n WHEN EAST Layton city was dissolved preparatory to annexation by Layton, all of the then existing zoning classifications reverted to an agricultural classification. The city planning commission will be working for about the next nine months figuring out the rezoning of the East Layton area and coordinating this new zoning with the existing Layton city master plan. Layton is now 27.000 in population and is second in population in Davis County behind Bountiful which has 35.000. Layton has more land area than Ogden city and will continue to grow. It is estimated that Layton will overtake Bountiful in a few years. SO FAR, the transition from East Layton to Layton has been reasonably smooth. The longtime residents of East pense which will fall on Layton concity will be tracts to widen Rainbow Dr. Also, the four inch water main under Rainbow Dr. will have Layton who opposed the merger have by and large been cooperative and have shown surprisingly little bitterness about the change.
