KELLIE JO VELIZ w Plans for community activities were discussed March 10 at the Layton City Improvement Associations monthly meeting. THE LIONS said the state organization owns an eye and ear testing van that will be available for use in Layton sometime during the summer. Entering Layton signs were discussed. The group felt some signs should be placed at the LCIA PRESIDENT, Lewis Macfarlane, expressed his desire to have cooperation and major roads coming into help among the civic and -- U Layton. Perhaps one large sign should be put somewhere in the city with a listing of civic clubs and their meeting times. The Lions Club was assigned the responsibility of finding out the city ordinances covering the placement of signs and the cost involved in this pro- church groups in Layton. He believes different groups within the city can work together to bring about solutions to problems and to make the community a unified place to live. Among the plans for future activities in Layton discussed was the Lions Clubs first folk festival. This will be held in the Layton Commons Park July 18. Different American folk crafts will be exhibited. There will be a variety of folk dancing and folk music. The Lions hope this will be their big for the year. - ject. LCIA President Macfarlane announced that Randall Heaps had been selected to be the general chairman of Riata Days. He has contacted people to serve with him on the committee. Plans will begin immediately to prepare for the annual 4th of July celebration. FOR THE past several years the American Legion organization in Layton has been inactive. Recently, new interest has been generated in this club and the American Legion is not operating in Layton. It holds dances weekly at the post building, and the group will sponsor ten boys and three girls at the Utah Boys and Girls State. THE KIWAnIS' Club will sponsor young people at Boys and Girls State also. This year the Kiwanis will work on the improvement of some of Laytons city parks. The Layton Civic Arts Association plans to assist the Layton Hills Mall with its arts festival. Other activities the LCIA will host during the year includes entertainment during Riata Days and a Christmas home tour. The LCIA helped Layton High School promote its musical "Annie Get Your Gun.
