Show m WEEKLY REFLEX -- yr r1' yr DAVIS NEWS JOURNAL, OCTOBER 26, 1978 mW ; f ; By DAVE WIGHAM r - WOODS CROSS first four games, including their first two league games, but then their problems seemed to stack up. First of all their main offensive threat, Jeff Ostler, was injured and has never been at full strength really since. Take someone like Ostler out and an offense has to suffer. A close loss to Box Elder seemed to take some of the heart out of the players and they have never fully recovered since. Although their players and coaches realize that this will be their last football game of the r-- season, the Woods Cross football program would like nothing better than to ruin the perfect record of the Logan club. IT WILL be an unhill battle go anywhere without some help from some people up front in the trenches and the big folks for the Lancers are playing well right now. From tackle to tackle the Lancer coaches were pleased with their players in the win over the Braves. Defensively the mam guns have turned out to be Burke at linebacker and Kirk Gallegos at safety. If Gallegos isnt back in the secondary picking off passes hes usually found in the opposition's backfield By DAVE WIGHAM LAYTON - This has been a very long season for the Sky View football team, the Bob-- cats have come close on several occasions but the fuct remains that they are still all alone In the caller of the region standings with a record. The problem for the Bobcats however is that this week is going to seem like an eternity as they have to come to town to battle the Layton team. MANY CACHE Valley fans are saying thai their team is better than their record shows this year, truth is that the Lancers are probably better than their record indicates Layton just might be peaking at the right time, if their effort last week against Bountiful is any indication then the Lancers could beat a lot more people before this season is over. Layton played one of their best games in AS FOR the Sky View team, you remember them, they have a couple of offensive threats of their own. Brad Hoggan has shown in the past two weeks that he can throw the football and tight end Lance Lindley has usually been on the other end of those passes. These two have teamed together on many occasions this season and will be the Bobcats only prayer to crown. have ! 1 4 started WOODS CROSS IX J3i';y 5, want. Could history repeat with the Lancers pulling off the same trick. THIS FUN recreational activity is being sponsored by the Layton Heritage Museum Board, Layton High School students, local clubs and radio stations. There is an admission charge which will be used for the Heritage Museum Building fund. The Haunted Halls is located in the old Farmers Union building at the corner of Gentile Street and Main Street in Layton. It is open nightly from p.m. ADULTS, young adults and children will all enjoy going e spook through this m Mark Earnshaw and others. Also the linebackers, Stu Egan and Dave Powell will be tested and the linemen Jason Whitney, Mark Tate, John Montgomery and Gregg Tuttle had better put some pressure on the passer Brad Jardine. Coach Hawkins might go with some of the younger people on the squad for some experience so juniors like Reed Call, Rick Hallows, Don Donaldson, Mike Brinkerhoff and Jeff Lewis might see some action. THE GRIZZLIES are sitting high for an upset, they seem comfortable and snu after their win last week. Thi Cats have a lot of pride ant are hungry to show they're i better club than their recorc would indicate. Heres tht upset of the week. Woods Cross will knock off Logan. they'll go out and give the Grizzlies all the game they Alley: Fun IV Todd Bailiff, Wes Mochzuku, pride in themselves and out the year and the season in hard-workin- g and junior Mark Vigil in their Burke or Art Leota, all of whom enjoy good games. BUT A running back cant i LOGAN HAS been known to throw the football, 250 yards last week against Davis, which puts a lot of pressure on the Cats secondary people, ALL THINGS aside though, the Cats have been a competitive club all year. They have been in most of their games until the final gun. This week could leave a great taste in the Wildcats mouth if they could knock off the Logan crew. This team has a lot of Spool: already. TO BE honest this game should turn into a laughter for the Lancers, a chance for some of those second-uni- t people to get some action. Sure in high school sports anything could happen, but only someone taking funny pills would pick the Bobcats to win this one. quarterback system using both senior Tracy Chatwin is left to Todd Stapley, Dave WW ft score. Sky View has lost two close ballgames in a row now and realize that this is their last outing of the year so incentive really isnt a factor from their standpoint. Layton needs the win to mathematically clinch the region title, logically they THE FACTS dont lie and the facts are that Layton has the best defensive club in the league, giving up just 56 points, while the Bobcats have one of the worst offenses (56 points) in the league. Layton also has one of the best offenses around, scoring 126 points, while the Bobcats have one of the worst defenses in the league (130 points). All season the Lancers have been going with the two offense but following the Bountiful game it will be tough for Tracy to get his job back. Vigil ran the option well a week ago and was very effective as a ball carrier himself. When Mark isnt handling the ball the running m were somewhat relieved when Sammy Gallegos graduated last year but Kirk has stepped right in to take over the family tradition. Braves, by far their best effort of the year, which now has the Lancer faithfuls thinking of that elusive state for the Wildcats but with nothing to lose, they might be primed for the upset. Also consider the Grizzlies wrapped up the region title last week with their win over the Davis club in Kaysville. The Wildcat defense has been good all year. They have only given up an average of 16 points a game but their offense hasnt been able to score much at all, averaging ten points an outing. quarterbacks. sacking Coaches too. recent years against the 1 score and since their defense is their best side they have a good chance at the win. great shape winning their -V .,. if&: full-bloo- d attends the University of Utah, per- formed with other members of his family tji. sponsor of the Paramedic bill for our state THESE BUILDINGS HAVE NEVER BEEN ERECTED 40x48 SIZE game against Layton.
