Show CEDAR CITY High School News By LaDawn Kiddle The annual Harvest Ball will be held tomorrow evening, Friday the 14th. This year it is to be an apron and overall dance and it is being sponsored by . the Future Farmers of America. The three classes of the high school have each elected a queen. Tomorrow night the final election will be held and one of the three will be crowned Queen of the Harvest Bali, This is not an entirely modem dance, for the College Orchestra Or-chestra will play some old-fashioned numbers. This same group, under the leadership lead-ership of Wendell Gardner, is going go-ing to give the assembly Friday morning. The theme will be one of Thanksgiving and the Harvest. Mr. Hess will make a short talk. Marion Dixon has prepared a reading, Don Woodyatt, a college student, will favor us with two solos. A group of students will dance the Virginia Real An opening and closing ceremony, cere-mony, which Is part of the F. F -A. code of ritual, will be. observed. This Harvest Ball is one of the high lights of the school year and we an glad, it has arrived. Our football team won the game which was played with Hurricane last Friday on the St. George field. This means that they will play the Brlgham Young High. School for the State Championship. The final game will be played Friday the 14th on the B. A. C. field. The winning win-ning of this game last Friday made up for the defeat of the week before. be-fore. The final score was 31 to 20. The game was the most spectacular spectacu-lar game of the season. A very large group attended, and everyone was full . of enthusiasm. We were told that the spectators of the game last Friday made up the largest group of people that has ever been In the Dixie stadium at one tim. We appreciate' the wonderful support sup-port we have received from the community. com-munity. The cast for the school play, "What A Life," has been chosen, the students taking part are: Cleone Parry, John Manning, Bob Lunt, Mark Wood, Bonnie Dalley, Arlene Barlow, Elaine Leigh, Emma Mae Esplin, Jane Urie, Dorine Dennis, Alice Roberts, Mayo Bybee, John Brown, Eldred Foster, and Robert Parry. The students will begin work immediately im-mediately and the play will be put on early in December. It is under the direction of Miss Leigh, speech instructor at the high school The Cedarettes are trying to get a list of the boys of Cedar City who are in the army but are not in the National Guard or Selective Service. They would appreciate it if people in the community would help them complete this list. Information relative re-lative to this could be. phoned to Mrs. Palmer at the high school The girl's organization would much appreciate ap-preciate any help which could be given. , ' , Miss . Winifred Hazen from the State Adult Education Department is giving a course on Mental Hygiene, Hy-giene, and Personal Development. She will be here once a month to give this course to the teachers. Miss Hazen has been here before and her talks have been enjoyed greatly. - - Mr. Jorgenson of the Seminary is giving a Teachers Training Claos for the Sunday School and one for- the primary. The primary Is studying the "Book of Mormon". Mr. Cooley states that these classes are concentrated on opening exercises. exer-cises. They are bringing talent in from other classes of the school to help make this interesting. I have been instructed to be sure to tell you that Mr. Cooley has a new coat, the kind the army wears. He says his brother, who Is in the army, sent it to him. The Commercial Club, under the direction of Mr. Stevenson, went to the Soil Conservation officers during their club period last Tuesday. Tues-day. This group is planning to visit a different business organization each time the club meets. The object ob-ject of these visits Is to gain a better bet-ter un.-Jers&ndlng , of the various accounting systems used and to learn what people of the business world think is important for students stud-ents to know before entering the professional field. |
