Show I LARGE FAMILIES A I CURE m ALL ILLS H I H (tnimind to Multiply and Subdue the H Karth in Paramount Mandate, H Hold Local Theologian. B The following rommunirntion, ad-. 1 dressed to the Kditor Iron County ; M Record, was received some weeks since ' M hut has bcM held in iibeyanre on ac- ! B count of a lack of time and space. , H It represents the views of one who is ; Hl committed to the idea of lare fam- ; M dies as a religious mandate, and the R only qualification recognized for par-1 H enthood is the endowments of nature, M or God, if he pleases. While the as- I M sumption that large families would he B a cure for all the ills and shortcom- j m ing. of the human race, is very far i M fetched, and disproved hy the fact I M Germany herself was one of the big- I M geat exponents of the large family ' B idea, we will not make reply, but give M the paper to our readers for what it H is worth. Whatever else might be m said, we accredit the author with sin- H ccrity and the best of motive. H Here is the communication: H Kditor Iron County Record, Dear H Sir. In your valuable paper of Fri- B day, Dec. 27, 1918, appeared an ar- H tide headed, "High Prices and targe H Families." And as you have been H just and brave enough in the past to H condemn or reprove anything or any- H body that you believe to be in the H wrong, and speak in favor of anything H or anybody that you believe to be H right, I trust that you will give pub- NJM lication to the few comments on and H answer to, the same, from a religious H standpoint. H The article seems to have been writ B ten from the opposite. M 1. As to the professor who accuses H the educated people of being "slack- I , era on the job of parenthood." I H think he is like the farmer who be- B lieves in planting every year whether M everything is favorable for raising a H crop or not, and chance it But the H ones he refers to are burdened with H so much useless education that they H are like the farmers who cannot see H their way clear to combat the diffl- H cutties, and will not plant much for H fear that it will grow and they will H havo to harvest it. Their education B does not solve the vital problems of I 2. Society and the child are one piB and the same, and each are rexpon- sible to the other. However, as you H have them separated, society from piH parents and children, unless society H does help to provide for the children, j H it has no claim on them, but ia a H slacker or an idler, and God says that j piB an idler has no place in the church. j H a Also, an idler shall not eat the bread j H or wear the garments of the laborers. H And for anyone but God to say who H are fit to bring rhildren into the j H world, and how numerous families ! IB! should be, would only be another at-' H tempt of Lucifer to take away the B agency of man. m 3. The good-meaning people, re- jH ferred to, who clamor for large fam- m Hies as a religious and social duty, H know that God has furnished them H the earth and that if they do not H multiply according to His command- H ments, that they will not be able to jH subdue the earth and gain the bless B inp.s promised thereby. M 4. It is true that well-to-do parents H with few children can give them an WM easy life and educate them for soci- m ety, that they may be well thought H of in their circles, but whether they M will add any new thing to the world, B ia questionable. H 5. You ask: "Suppose the human family were to unanimously decide in favor of the large family and live up to the ideal, how long do you suppose the world could provide for them, unless wars and pestilence were sent K to relieve the congestion?" I answer that such conduct by all Hfl the people, and living up to the ideal, Bl would bring down the blessings of Almighty God upon them until they would be stronger than the evcrlaat- ing hills. And having no enemies, fl they would go forth and subdue the fl waste places until they would actually have a heaven on earth and would have everything that their hearts eould desire. For if living up to the Ideal, they would want only the con- structive and life-protecting things and would have no use for ammuni- H tion, guns or anything to kill the oth- er fellow. For all would be love, as our Father in Heaven is love. I And if they ever did get so numer- BJBl ous, as suggested, that the world flB eould not provide for them, wars and BBB pestilence would not do it. HH Then you further ask. "And who JBj cm say that the recent great world BBfl war and the influenza scourge which BBH has practically swept every part of JBa the earth, have not been ordered by BBS an nil-wise Creator for this vory pur- BBV pose." BBB 1" answer to the above, I can say as God lives, and is an all-wise Creator, Cre-ator, that He has never ordered wars or any other method of relieving any congestion; for there is not and never has been any congestion. The people have never multiplied enough yet to subdue the earth as they were commanded com-manded to do. And furthermore, if one is an all-wise all-wise Creator, He would be wise enough after having created the earth and the people, to still create and help them to create ways and means of living, especially on an earth which they have not half subdued, when He expects them to subdue it all. And an all-wise Creator would not destroy what he had created, especially before be-fore they had accomplished what lie had created them for. Contention arid destruction are not Cod's purpoae-i, and yet we have to acknowledge His hand in all things. And in this event we can only say that the people had become so wicked that they have served Lucifer rather than God until He has turned them over to Lucifer, whose only purpose is to destroy them. They have used their nency to their destruction. Mad they obeyed God they would have loved each other and would have been united Every natioil would have spent their billions of dollars and the 1 Mlgth of their millions of men and m women, lost by the wars, in subduing the eaxth, and would have made it capable of supporting many times the number of people that there were before be-fore the war. God's work, and His glory, is to bring to pass the immortality immor-tality and eternal life of man. But Lucifer's purpose is the opposite to keep the children of God from coming here and taking mortal bodies, and he has been very successful in killing the men in battle and making laws and customs to prevent the women from bearing children, which also takes away their agency and purpose of life, and their lives are blighted. And now, under present conditions, women still have their desires, and their acency gives them the right to s.iy what they are. Let us use our agency wisely that we may have pence and the blessings of the Lord, and axoniplish His work in the earth. Respectfully, GEO A MILI.KTT. I |
