Show PIONEER UTAH BANKER DEAD. Financier and Mining Magnate Succumbs Suc-cumbs to Long Illness. Salt Lake City. Matthew II. Walker, president or Walker Bros. Bankers, and known as one of the foremost financiers in tho lntermoun-tain lntermoun-tain west, died July 28, after a lingering ling-ering illness. Matthew if. Walker was born in Yendon, Yorkshire, Englnnd. January 16, 1845, and came to Utah in 1855 Thero wero four sons Sharp S. Walker, D. F. Wulkor, J. It. Walker and M. 11. Walker. Tho first bank In Salt Lake wns opened by tho Walker brothers. M. H. Walker and his brothers wero also pioneers in mining In Utah. They first operated at Stockton and Ophlr and also in tho Little Cottonwood district, whero was located tho famous old Emma mine |
