Show THE HIBERNIANS IN BOSTON. That was a splendid demonstration of frishnien last week in Boston, on the occasion of the biennial convention of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. The convention itseif was composed of men of sterling character, representative represent-ative of the best impulses and oppi rations ra-tions of the Irish heart. Men were as-seirsbled as-seirsbled there from every state in the Union, as well a:: from the Canadian j provinces, and it was noticeable that there whs a spirit of Amciieanism of j the purest tone. Opposition to an alliance al-liance with Ensrland and a firm and j resolute maintenance of the dortrine j enunciated by President Monroe formed ! one of the sterling resolutions of the j body, while, taken altogether in its J appearance, as well as in its action, the j convention was one of which Arnori- j cans in general and Irishmen in partic- j u!ar might well be rroud. The Irish-Americans of New England honored the conveition in a demonstration demonstra-tion composed of fifteen thousand (15,-t'Ou) (15,-t'Ou) men in j-.arade. Two years hence this same body will meet in convention in Coloi ado's queen- 1 ly capital Denver. The Intermountain J Catholic, thus early, promises to the Hibernians of America a royal reception recep-tion in the far west. The Irishmen of Denver are devoted and loyal; they will make this an oc- asion memorable in tha history of the order. T. II. M. |
