Show PUEBLO, COLO. The untimely death of Miss Anna Carr. which occurred early Saturday morning, came as a great, shock to her large circle of friends in this city. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Carr, of Block T, and was quite popular in local . social circles of the younger set. Considering her age 16 year the death is more pathetic. Miss Carr had undergone an operation for appendicitis and was on the read to recovery when a relapse occurred and she passed away suddenly. The funeral took place Monday, afternoon aft-ernoon from St. Patrick's church. The services were conducted by Rev. J. J. Brown. f State Senator and Mrs. Gateman of Indiana, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Maloney. - Friday. Sept. 1, was Orphans' dtry at Lake Minnequa park, and 5,000 people orphans, their friends and others who contributed to the ood cause of char-I char-I ity were passed through the turnstije I at the park gate. To say that the orphans or-phans enjoyed themselves hugely goes .without saying. As a matter of fact, . they pronounced th? event as the.hap-I the.hap-I piest they had ever had. The children began arriving early iii the morning and continued filing into the park , during the entire day and night, many of them making the occa-' ! sion an all-day holiday. These inva-1 inva-1 riably brought big lunch baskets and j picknicked on the lawns in the shade of the trees. In the afternoon all were entertained at the theatre, the house b.ing packed to about 200 in excess of its capacity. Although there was a scarcity of room, there was no dearth of amusement and the orphans weer entertaintd in almost every manner conceivable. For about two hours in the afternoon the courtesies courte-sies of the various amusement devie.s were extended them. The orphans were captivated with the free ride in th? aerial swing as well as a journey on the miniature railway. In the evening a dance at the lake pavilion was one of the principal features, fea-tures, while vaudeville entertainment on the op:n-air platform and illustrated illus-trated songs by Oscar N. Walch were greatly enjoyed. Many persons who had not tripped the light fantastic for years could be sen on the dance floor at the pavilion, eager to waltz or two-step two-step for charity's sake. The theatre was also crowded to the doors in -the evening when "Home. Sweet Horn?," was played by the Wolfe company. It is estimated that about 2,000 children chil-dren and 3.000 adults passed into the park during the day and night. Although the exact ainound of funds realized for the orphans from the receipts re-ceipts cannot be determined until a check of the tickets is made, a . conservative con-servative estimate of the amount thus derived is placed at $500. Miss Grace Jackson and Miss Irene Carr have returned from their visit to Colorado Springs. |
