Show CIVIL WAR SISTER DEAD. Sister Mary Magdalene, who died at Cairo, 111., recently, aged 80 years, has been a Sister of the Order of the Holy Cross for fifty years. She was one of the first nurses sent out by the Mother General Gen-eral of the order in 1861 in response to a call by General Lew Wallace of Indiana. With Mother Angela and Sister M. Adele, Sister Magdalene arrived ar-rived in Cairo, , Oct. 24, ,1861, and reported at once to General Grant, who received them with the most courteous consideration. Then they proceeded to Paducah, where they assumed charge of the military hospital. |
