The important event of the week was the reopening1 of the Stock Exchange, after a vacation of thirty days. It has removed to new quarters, rather less inviting than those formerly occupied, and is now operating under a new set of regulations, which seem to give more general satisfaction than the old rules. The resumption of business has not as yet been followed by any great increase in the volume of trading, which still remains at low water mark, but what business there is, is conducted upon a more satisfactory basis. There are now being received from the East a number of inquiries concerning Camp Floyd and other stocks, and although buying orders from this source are not plentiful, there are indications of increasing interest. Business is not expected to show any great improvement before the latter part of the month, and some of the operators do not anticipate any revival until after the Presidential election. One feature of the present situation is the popularity of the silver stocks, which seem to be in greater demand than the gold, the Park City and Tin-ti- c properties being the favorites. Anchor remains strong and advanced during the week. Reports from the mine are of a favorable character. Ajax developed nothing new, but the discussion of a mill proposition may stimulate interest in this stock. The Alliance is being steadily worked and there are said to be a good many people who still have faith in the property, but there is nothing doing in the stock. The monthly dividend of the Bullion-Bec- k is paid today, two weeks earlier The stock has sold during usual. than the week at $6.506.60. The Brick Consolidated treasury stock is still held at 60 and 70 cents, but no sales are reported. The shaft on this property is to be sunk 500 feet deeper and an extensive machinery plant has been ordered. black of Centennial-Eurek- a One has been offered during the week at $G5, but other holders place a higher valuation upon their stock. The usual dividend of $1 per month will be paid on the 15th. The Daly dividend has arrived at last in the shape of a payment, payable on the 22nd. As to whether this is a monthly or a quarterly dividend no positive information is given out, but it is strongly intimated that payments are to be made quarterly. No one imagines that 25 cents will be paid monthly while the Ontario is paying but 10 cents. Small favors, 100-sha- re long-looked-f- or 25-ce- are thankfully received by be well worth the money, as the capitalthe stockholders, and the stock ad- ization is but 100,000 shares, and the vanced 50 cents in the bidding on the property is said to be in shape to pay strength of the dividend. The shaft will be continued to a depth of 350 feet, at which point good ore is expected to be encountered, judging from results in adjoining propWties. Galena has sold at $2 during the week, but was offered yesterday at lower prices. The management contemplates the purchase of a steam hoist, but nothing has yet been decided upon. The usual dividend of 5 cents per share is expected' to be paid on the 10th. Geyser remains at previous figures, with nothing doing in the stock. Horn Silver has been offered as low as $2.15 and sold at New York at $1.75 1.80, but there is no local trading. Mammoth continues active, but notwithstanding the large number of buying orders the stock has not advanced. It sold down to $3 last week, but subsequently rallied a few points. It is hardly safe to predict any important advance in the near future, as it is understood that production will not be pushed until the completion of the new hoist. Mercur has spent a quiet week, with sales at $6.256.35. If money should loosen up a bit this stock would be certain to command higher figures. Ontario was firmer and sold at $11.65. There were sales of Overland treasury stock at 50 cents. The first sale of Sioux Consolidated on the Stock Exchange was made during the week at $2.
