Show $60,000 MINING REVIEW INTER-MOUNTAI- N G at the works, and a large sum to place it in operation, it will not be available by individuals or companies of limited means. It is not unlikely that this invention will be the means of bringing about extensive operations on the Colorado river. As is wrell known, there are many miles of rich bars below Cataract canyon that have not been worked for the reason that no economical process has been devised for raising sufficient water for any of the processes heretofore known. Raising the water by canals and flumes involved tremendous expense, owing to the rugged character of the country, and the absence of fuel prevented the use of steam power. There are some points upon the river, however, where water power could be developed, and by extending wires up and down the stream any number of these Bennett machines could be operated from one power plant. These bars are much richer than those along the Green river, carrying $1 and upward per yard, and the gold is coarser. A power plant could be located at either one of three rapids in the midst of these rich gold bearing bars, and at a cost not exceeding the expense of placing the steam plant in operation at Green River. This would obviate the expense of fuels, and by the use of an electric cable up and down the stream, gravel containing millions of dollars could be handled by one power plant. NEWS CLEAN-U- P.
