I rSUlea 5 : Considerable financial difficulty is being encountered by some of our military personnel at Hill AFB largely due to a lack of constructive financial planning and financial responsibility. This major economic problem has serious repercussions social, economic, spiritual, upon all phases of our society Financial difficulty is career. home life, and our military a major cause of marital problems and requires more attention than any other personal problem at Hill AFB by commanders, chaplains, first sergeants and supervisory personnel. have been exDuring the past year many rt pended in the administration of letters of indebtedness, of dependents, control roster actions, AFR 6 and AFR 7 cases, etc. Financial problems are generated because some of our people do not live within their resources in relation to a sound financial plan which includes some form of a savings investment. When emergencies or financial set backs occur, some individuals and their families are not buffered to cope with the problems. The ensuing damage to the individual's military effectiveness and credit rating is virtually irreparable. It is essential that all military personnel have a savings plan of some kind. A savings account enables people to meet their financial obligations and enhances their future security. Everyone should, therefore, save a certain amount of money each month and set it aside where it is not readily accessible. It is not the intent of this editorial to tell you what investments to make, it is to encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to participate in some type of savings plan There are many ways for most Air Force personnel families to prepare for the future by investing in a savings plan of their choice and one that is suitable for themselves and their families such as bank savings, savings and loan institutions, life insurance, stocks, mutual funds, bonds, credit unions, or any combination of the above. One way of having a savings plan is to have bond allot- ments quarterly or mommy. Anomer plan is that when a loan is obtained from a bank, credit union, etc., and the monthly payments are established at $30 a month, the allotment can be made out for $35 and the additional $5 monthly can be used to start a savings account. When a pay raise is received, this provides an excellent opportunity for most personnel to invest the raise in pay in a savings account. Admittedly, we are presently operating on a credit economy, but the fact remains that credit should be used wisely And, in most cases, if an individual cannot afford to save, .he cannot afford to borrow. One of the base policies is to assist individuals and families to maintain self respect, self confidence, and integrity by helping personnel help themselves in the matter of personal finances so they will see the wisdom of holding a tight rein on their impulse to use credit unnecessarily. By saving wisely and regularly now, your ability to send the children to college, buy a home or new car, and to have a reserve fund for emergencies for the future is assured. Those military personnel who daily prove their ability to manage money wisely will achieve financial security and a better way of life. man-hou- - rTTbPJTM- rs non-suppo- 39-1- 39-1- m -- Conn,, I uidi imc rAnurn wwinci wnrfcin -- A Ji r Sowing and Reapina Early fo Bed, By Chaplain (Mainri t 11ltn Our lives are made up of our everyday? ,&' Wear stantly sowing and reaping. Then the germs get passed around and the kids start getting sick. There are ways to combat this. First, school physicals and booster shots should have been obtained. You have no idea how important school exminor condiaminations are tions are discovered which can be cleared up before they become big troubles later. We have almost forgotten how it used to be when diphtheria and whooping cough were the scourges of childhood. These really dangerous diseases are almost unknown today in the United States, principally because of immunization so don't neglect that booster. Nowadays, a four-diseabooster is a one-tim- e, se shot that also contains polio and lockjaw serum. Second, send the kids to bed early, especially on school nights. Plenty of rest is a great aid in helping them resist exposure to germs encountered ev - - S V CAPSULE LAW Don't Leave Keys in Your Car (AFNS) Many of the states ha V0 lanrs m1.: offense to leave a car parked with either the keys in J nition or the ignition switch turned fill. Have him rest. See if he is hungry. If you think the child is sick, get medical attention as soon as you can. And keep him home the next morning if there is any doubt about his condition. Early treatment is just as important as reducing exposure.
