P(Bpu(B has announced that this year all Hospital A Q military personnel be required have two successive shots instead one shot. the The USAF Hill will of influenza to More customary information, please. Are we being subjected to an experimental procedure of which we are being told little? events have occurred A theSeveral influenza immunization program which dictate changes in of the United States Air Force this year. There are three basic types of influenza, A, B, and C. Within each type there are many strains that are actually mutants or changes of the basic type. The news media in recent years has brought to public attention terms such as "Hong Kong" and "London" influenza. These types are all variations of Type A influenza and get their names usually from the location where they are identified. Type A is normally the worst type of influenza and the immunizations Air Force personnel have traditionally received have been for the currently occurring A strain, as well as Types B and C. Types B and C, heretofore, have not been the types that have caused world-wid- e epidemics and usually do not mutate as rapidly as Type A . Very recently, a new strain "mutant" of Type B has emerged. The recently announced requirement for a second immunization is for the new Type B. It will not be given simultaneously with the traditional Type A as a separation of two or more weeks enhances the body's overall antibody response, providing the individual greater degree of protection. Under no circumstances should the two shots be considered as an experimental procedure but viewed as an effort to preclude an influenza epidemic at Hill AFB. Our children have been required to show an II) card at the BX before being allowed to buy candy, ice cream, etc. We feel it is very unnecessary and wonder if something can be done about it. Q in "C" Exchange, the following policy is established and in effect : Small children will lx authorized to purchase candy, soft drinks and other inexpensive items of merchandise as long as the sales clerk personally recognizes the dependent. This section of the Code applies to each agency of the United States Government. The seriousness of the national energy shortage cannot be overstressed. This shortage and the concurrent escalating utility costs are matters of utmost concern to the President, the Department of Defense, and the Air Force. Policies concerning conservation of energy are under their authority and direction. TEMPATATION rarely comes in working hours. It is in their leisure time that men are made or marred.-W.- T. What is the base policy regarding transactions at the credit union and the bank? Services provided by the bank and credit union are Hill AFB for the convenience of military and civilian personnel. Since many military families live on base, the services are provided during normal business hours for use by these people. Civilian employees are invited to use these facilities during break periods, lunch periods and before or after work hours. There is no policy authorizing civilian personnel to use them during their duty hours unless the employee is on approved leave. Is submission of an incorrect timecard a misdemeanor, or is it a felony, or what classification is it? Anyone may be deemed an accessory to violation of federal law if, knowing an offense has been committed, they relieve, comfort or assist the offender in order to hinder or prevent apprehension, trial or punishment. Further, every employee has a moral obligation to report any evidence of intentional wrongdoing in the conduct of official business. The intentional submission of an incorrect timecard is a violation of federal law. Whether such violation would be a felony or a misdemeanor would depend upon all the facts in the case. O The Secretary of Defense has directed that in view of the critical shortages of petroleum products, every effort must be made to reduce the consumption of petroleum fuels. Accordingly, we are required to reduce energy consumption by 10 percent this year. This reduction not only applied to heating fuels, but to all energy resources. Hill AFB accomplished this goal in part by restricting the use of heating fuels, except to critical areas such as the hospital, until Oct. 9. A substantial savings of 1,600,000 cubic feet of natural gas was conserved each day that heat was not used, worth $11,000 per week. Restricting heat until Oct. 9 allowed Hill to conserve the limited supply of heating fuel for use during the cold winter months still ahead, and should accomplish the 10 per cent reduction of , utilities goal. This policy has been approved by the Ogden AMA y commander. The shortage throughout the United States is a real problem concerning all citizens. Cooperation of all personnel is needed to conserve our limited supply of fuel so that heat will be available during the cold winter months. Now is the time period to live with the inconvenience of cool mornings.
