Jean McCallum, Hill Field Staff From the complete fabrication of certain types of airplanes to the stitching up of a staff car seat cushion, tai loring for the Oeden Air n IE PC2' T it Ji Technical Service Command is done by the fabric unit of the maintenance division. Gut to order and stitched to it are the variety of mate rials which are needed in air craft and vehicle repair. Work orders arrive daily in laree numbers for the pattern-makewho order the material and make all the patterns from blueprints for the orders. The cutters bench takes over the natterns and cuts tne pieces ior the women at the sewing machines. Each article Is completed down to the last buttonhole or fastener. Of the 27 employes in the shop 23 are women. The unit has al ways been 100 per cent cooperative in cash purchases of war bonds during every drive and at Dresent has over 90 per cent of people de ducting bonds from their nay. There are 24 sewing machines used in the unit, giving them a machine for any type of sewing that comes in. The upholstering department does the majority of the work such as stuffing aircraft cushions, and fixing cushions for tucks, staff cars and all vehicles on the field. The wing surface department re pairs, recovers, patches and makes all technical order changes on rud ders, ailrrons, elevators, stabilizers and so forth for aircraft brought to this field. About 20 parts are turned out each week by the six highly trained employes who work in this department.
