Show Will Ask Commissioners To Rush Road Campaign With the assurance of federal aid to the amount of $50,000 from the federal government for the road campaign through Gunnison, Gunni-son, Centerfield and Axtell this year, and being advised that the preliminary surveys would be started and the work rushed through with all possible speed, steps will be taken at once to have the county commissioners of this county to take inimediate action to appropriate sufficient funds to start the preliminary work. This action will be necessary in order to get the work started and until it is done the state and federal officers will be unable to participate partici-pate in the usual way. At the regular luncheon meeting of the Gunnison Valley Development De-velopment league held at the Gunnison hotel last evening a committee com-mittee was named to visit the commissioners at the regular session ses-sion to be held next week and make a request for the appropriation of sufficient funds to carry out the preliminary survey work The committee consist of Mayor J. W. Jones, R. J. Parr, N. L. Her-rnansen, Her-rnansen, Martin Peterson and Julius Duggins. When this committee visits the commissioners they will not only ask that the appropriation be made for the preliminary work, bu they will ask that the bonds be sold and that the program be arranged definitely and quickly in order that the road can be completed com-pleted before the coming fall. With the conditions that prevailed prevail-ed during the past winter and for several years past, it is proving a hardship for1 the farmers and travelers to negotiate the roads and the result is that business is hampered. South Sanpete participated partici-pated in the bond election, in the hopes of getting better roads and the time has arrived that the demand will be made for immediate action. In addition to asking for th appropriation the committee was instructed to ask the commissioners when mapping the program for the Gunnison-Axtell project to include cement paving through the city of Gunnison. A request will also be made to have the county road changed from the present course. The committee will solicit the aid of the commissioners in having them designate the road north of town as the main county highway, thus eliminating eliminat-ing the turns and curves to be found on the present route. |
