Show SOUTHERN TRAVEL ASKS NEW ROUTING State Road Commission Is Asked to Make Change In Highway Will Make a Big Saving. With a view to having a sl'gMt change made In the routng of the Slato Highway leading south from NephI, a strong delegation from Gunnison, Richfield and Salina went to Sail Lake Wednesday and will seek an audience with the State Road Commission. The representatives representa-tives from the respective towns are O. 11. llerglund and N. L. Herman-sen, Herman-sen, of Gunnison; County Commissioner Commis-sioner A. K. Hansen and J. L. lowing, low-ing, of Richfield, and Max Cohen, of Salina. At the last session of the legislature legisla-ture a bill was passed eliminating the road from Levan to Gunnison as a state highway, the road leading through Salt Creek canyon, out from Nephi, being substituted. The delegation dele-gation will uik that the Salt Creek canyon bo eliminated and that the old road be established to Levan. And from Levan it will be asked that the route leading to the Sevier River dam, be changed to run to tli.; E. D. Sorenson ranch, on the old state road, and thence west to the S2vier River dam. The matter was started by tho Entrenous club of Gunnison and last Saturday a committee of citizens from Gunnison went over the rout':! of the change that will be asked and j made a study of the situation, the ' report of the committee shows thatj the change that will be asked is not j only advantageous to all of the travel i south, but that the expense of main-j tonanco and the expense of construction construc-tion will be far less on" the proposed new route. Another strong point that will be put before the State Road commission Is the conditon of the Salt Creek canyon. In addition to being 20 miles further, during the winter months, or a period of perhaps per-haps ninety days of the stormy season, sea-son, the canyon is impassable and the heavy travel that goes from both Sanpete and Sevier counties, as well as the travel from farther south must travel over roads that receive little or no attention, which makes travel during the winter months, practically out of the question, in so far as the southern travel is concerned. con-cerned. Some "sixteen citizens of the city of Gunnison visited the Salina and Richfield Commercial clubs Monday to confer with the citizens of these cities on the matter. At both of the cities the gates were thrown opc-n and the citizens not only agreed to work as a whole for the change, but immediately elected delegates to zo to Salt Lake to assist in putting the matter before the State Road commission. com-mission. It is proposed to take the matter up with the State Automobile, Association, Asso-ciation, and invoke the aid of that organization, and if the commissioners commission-ers will take favorable .action, the state will not only lie saved a great, expense, but travelers from the south will be accorded decent roads o:i which to travel. |
