It’s been a privilege serving you throughout the year Lund's Drive Inn Gunnison Utah Honors Christenson and Hill at Yule Program by Darlene Agren Staff Writer On Monday December 17 2001 the Gunnison Valley Middle School held their annual Yule Program for the community But this was not your ordinary "Christmas Concert" Principal Alan Peterson wants their annual program to be your ordinary festive show of Christmas music He includes the honoring of certain local residents in the valley that have done exemplary community service and are deserving of their recognition The performance of all the music students in the school was fantastic! Gunnison Market will close early Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve at 6 pm We’ll be closed Christmas Day And we’ll be open New Year’s Day Cedar City for two years and then finished one year at Utah State In the fall of 1941 she began teaching school in Antimony She dated a young man named Forrest from Gunnison at the time and in February of 1942 the two drove to St George to be married in the temple They moved and had their first child a daughter in Ogden and then moved back to Hatch Utah She then was expecting her second child but there wasn't a doctor in the area so they moved to Fayette Utah While in Fayette Lucele taught school and her husband herded sheep in Mt Pleasant This was a very hard time for her in living alone while her husband worked in the other end of the county and one day she wrote him a letter saying she was going to move back to Hatch Utah She did this and then a short time later her husband joined her They bought a school bus and drove the students to and from school He also worked at a local sawmill and ran his farm In 1955 the couple returned to Gunnison and Lucele started working in the scouting program with the boys She served as both stake and district Blazer leader for nearly 15 years Lucele would take the boys to Midway and Maple Dell every year for Day Camp and later hosted two camps for all the scouts in the country In 1958 Lucele started the Cub Scout program in Gunnison and it eventually grew into the stake program that it is today Her efforts have earned her national recognition and is the recipient of the Silver Fawn Award Along with her husband Forrest they farmed milked cows and raised their six children Marjorie Eddie Marion Jerel Dennis and Clarice here in the valley In 1992 Forrest suffered a heart attack and passed away Although greatly saddened by the loss Lucele has continued her long the with association scouting program Today she is the person every potential eagle scout must review their projects with as the head of the Eagle Board Utah Marian and her late husband Keller were parents to Dennis Tim Jed Bruce Lori and Carma After a lifetime of service the Middle School Pillar Award was presented to of Reviews Mrs Marian Christenson A lifetime of service dediAaron Inouye read the re- cated to a fine organization marks for Mrs Lucele Hill On that has helped young men June 30 1919 Lucele was bom become better citizens makes Mrs Lucele Hill a Pillar Award in Hatch Utah After graduation from Garfield County recipient this year High she went on to college at The Gunnison Valley NewsSalina Sun needs help!
