Show Ladies feted By Gunnison Lions Good will and a social and gay time, together with a steaming hot turkey banquet, marked the success of the annual 'ladies night"' fete given by the Gunnison Lions club at the Wistaria cafe. Wednesday evening eve-ning of last week. Forty-five banqueters ban-queters surrounded the long tables, ladened with delicacies fit to tickle the palate of the most particular epi-curian, epi-curian, and for more than an hour the depression, heartaches, pains and sickness were thrown to the four winds, and everyone present enjoyed a royal time. Bert Eggertsen acted as master of ceremonies, and announced an interesting inter-esting program of music and readings, read-ings, and called on member Lions for brief "gabs," which were cleverly given and warmly received. A chorus of high school girls, Misses Lucile Modeen, Ileen Jolley, Pauline Mich-aelsen, Mich-aelsen, Mazie Myrup, Mavis Munk Nedra Farr and Jean Childs, under the direction of Miss Virginia Ekins, gave selections which were well received. re-ceived. Miss Ekins, famed for her reading and dramatic work, gave a comical reading and was warmly applauded. ap-plauded. Brief responses were given, one by Mrs. C. E. Andersen, representing the ladies, who were honor guests, and many members of the Gunnison Lions club "came across" with something some-thing or another. At any rate, the annual banquet was voted one of the best ever staged by the local Lions and it will go down in history as an eventful affair. At the close of the banquet at 9 o'clock, the group went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Peterson, where cards were enjoyed. Progressive Progres-sive 500 and other games occupied the time until midnight. Forty were entertained at the Peterson home. |
