Show At 9:30 the party Iert the Commer cial club rooms for a trip to Saltair. the president's first visit to Utah's great resort in the Great Salt lake. Returning from Saltair, a special organ or-gan recital was held at the tabernacle, taber-nacle, being prepared especially for the occasion. At 11:45 the president was the guest of the members of the Country club, where he was given a chance to swing a golf stick for a short time. From 3:30 to 5:30 a public reception recep-tion was held at Liberty park, when the park was crowded with men, women wo-men and children, each with but the one desire, to catch a glimpse of the chief executive, unless they might be one of the fortunate ones to come near enough to him to grasp his hand or hear his hearty "Glad to meet, you." At 5:30 back to the hotel, and at 6:45, on to the University club to attend at-tend a reception of the Ohio Society and Yale graduates, after which the remainder of the evening, until the president expressed a desire to retire for the night, was passed at the Alta club. Sunday morning the president was escorted by a band of 100 union musicians music-ians to the Tabernacle, where he listened list-ened to. a sermon, 10,000 people having hav-ing assembled in the grounds, after which he reviewed the school children chil-dren of Salt Lake, witnessed a drill by the members of the living flag, made a short stop at the Y. M. C. A., and then attended services at the Unitarian church. The small church was crowded to its capacity and thousands surrounded the building, anxious for another view of the chief executive. The president listened closely to the sermon, and after the service was over he shook hands with the minister. Others wanted to meet him, but time was short and the party started immediately for the union station. Leaving Salt Lake City, the presidential presi-dential train arrived at Ogden at 1 p. m. The program at the Junction City included an 18-mile automobile trip through Ogden canyon, a drive (through the grounds of the School for the Deaf and Blind, a review of the school children at Liberty park and an address to 15,000 people in Lester park. Leaving Ogden, the last stop in the state was made at Cache Junction, Junc-tion, where 5,000 people had assembled assem-bled to greet the chief executive. The governor, Senators Smoot and Sutherland and other prominent men of the state, accompanied the president presi-dent to the Idaho line, and when they said good-bye to President Taft, he assured them that the three days spent in the state of Utah were three of the most perfect days within his recollection. President Taft spent half an hour at Pocatello, Idaho, Sunday night, arriving ar-riving at 8:30 p. m., and leaving a little after 9, to continue his journey north into Montana. He was greeted by an immense crowd, gathered about a stand erected at the depot. It was the biggest depot throng the president presi-dent had yet encountered. Governor Brady,. Senator Borah, former Governor Gooding, Representative Represent-ative Hamer and former Senator Dubois Du-bois of Idaho boarded the president's train at the Idaho line and had dinner din-ner as guests of Mr. Taft. John Hays Hammond and Secretary of the Interior In-terior Baliinger also were in the party. |
