A committee of three from each section was chosen from the meeting, in conjunction with the school board, who are to close negotiation ne-gotiation for the money, backed by the endorsements promised by men of financial standing residing in their respective sections. This will insure the immediate completing of the new school buildings so,nicely under way. And they are greatly needed. j It was a gathering of big-hearted j men that met Saturday night at the t Commercial club room in the city hall. The occasion which gave rise to this patriotic spirit was the conditions condi-tions that confront the school board with respect to completing the new school buildings. The school board wisely chose to importune the aid of representative citizens through the medium of the Commercial club. It will be remembered that the school district a short time ago bonded bond-ed for $18,000 for the puipose of improving im-proving the school buildings, with the understanding that money realized realiz-ed from ihe sale of the bond was to be distributed pro rata to the school population in each of the the three sections of the district, Gunnison, Centerheld and Axtell. The bond had been based ou estimates of what tho buildings would cost, which proved prov-ed later on t. be about $7,5000 below what a suitable contract took to cover the desired work. A lax levy having betii voted on oac. ihis year prevents another voting on the question until next spring. Upon learning of the grave position in which the school district is placed, members of the Commercial club present at the meeting were all of them more than willing to pledge se- |
