Show W. E. Borah, of Idaho, is making a strong campaign for election as senator to succeed Senator Sen-ator Dubois upon his retirement this year. He would have had easy sailing had it not been for the fact that Gentiles of Idaho came to the conclusion con-clusion that he and Chairman Gooding of the Republican Re-publican committee made a compact with the Mormon leaders of that state. It is because of the antagonism toward him aroused by this belief, that Borah will make a direct appeal to the voters, placing his reliance upon an endorsement for the senatorship in the Republican state convention. Mr. Borah is a shrewd politician, but, presuming reports to be true, he has made the most lamentable lament-able mistake in his political career. |
