Show A BAD BREAK. H Many people thought Admiral Dewey lacked discretion on that night when he covered his lights v and steamed into Manila bay. But heathen was in the humor that Lord Nelson was on that day when he declared it must be victory for him or Westminster Abbey, and what he did was excus- l able, if nothing more, and surely what was done that night and the next day electrified the world. I But the Admiral does lack discretion sure enough. Saying a good word the other day for the men j who man and, when necessary, fight our warships, H he declared that the American navy was the finest H in the world. That would have been accepted all H right, but he also filed a bill of particulars and H declared that it was superior to the German navy because there was more thought behind the guns. Why did he pick out the German navy? H Why could he not bunch the world and let it go at H that. It places our Government in a bad fix and the Admiral should have thought of that. It was IH a bad break. hI |
