Show B THE WATER QUESTION. B It seems that the net revenue of the water sys- B tern of this city for last year was close to $G0,000, B an increase for the year of some $10,000 over the B previous year. B The proposition of Colonel Holmes last spring B was that the city should issue bonds for the B amount needed to perfect the water system for all B time to come, also to take up the old water honds B on which the city is now paying $10,000 per an- B num interest, and that the levenue from the water B System should be set aside to provide for the in- B teiest on the honds and also supply a sinking B fund to meet and call in the bonds at maturity. B Had the proposition been accepted, the prob- Bj lem of the future water supply of the city would B have been solved and the work of bringing in the B water would have now been in full blast, with a B certainty of speedy completion. The water be- B longs, not to the city, but to the people of the B city. The people wanted the improvement, but B the Legislature turned them down, not on merit, B hut on a petty Qetail which could have been ad- B justed in an hour. |
