Show Modistes of every grade will be interested in a law case that began yesterday, but is not decided decid-ed at this printing. A woman sent to a dressmaking dressmak-ing firm to be measured for a new costume. The measurer found her attired in angelic loveliness and as little else as angels wear, and did his duty with the artistic indifference professional men display toward their customers, patients, models, ballet girls and wives. But a week later, when the costume was sent to be tried on, by some miracle of Nature or Art the woman's bust had developed, her hips broadened and the whole contour of her figure changed, so that the waist could not be buttoned and the skirt did not touch tho floor except in front. The dressmaker made such alterations and explanations as were possible, possi-ble, but the woman would not accept them nor the costume. I do not envy the judge and jui.v who have to decide whether a woman must be fitted as she is or as she wants to look. Town Topics. |
