Men and women are vastly different kinds of creatures and in view of many factors, both mental and physical, it is amazing that marriage continues. Definition My eldest daughter, Becky, asked me the definition of a psychiatrist. I would say it is a person who doesn't have to worry as long as other people do. Sometimes it would be a good idea if the people who listen to public speakers would get up and talk back. Caulfield, General Manager, Western Mining Divisions, said today the company was appealing the case to the courts. "We believe that the commission erred in its interpretation of state and federal statutes, state and federal constitutions, decisions of the Utah Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court of the United States, and concurring decisions of other appellate state courts where such issues have arisen," Mr. Caulfield said. "Kennccott is and long has been Utah's largest taxpayer, he said. "In 1952 it paid approximately lo the State of Utah and its taxing divisions. Kennecott wants to pay its just and lawful share of the tax load, but it believes that the ruling of the tux commission in this case is entirely beyond its authority and so lacking in reason as to be arbitrary. These pertained to interpretations of the depiction allowance granted mining companies, and as to whether income of companies doing business bjth in the state and out of the state is taxable only on that portion of the business dune in Utah. Mr. Caulfield said the law permits mining companies to take for depletion 33 per cent of the net income from the property. "This has been the case since the law was enacted in 1931, said Mr. Caulfield, and the tax commission had construed this to mean the entire net income realized from the sale of the final product. In 1945, however, and applied only to Kennecott, the tax comission repudiated this sound principle to which it had so long adhered and computed depletion on a formula so fantastic as to be incapable of understanding," Mr. Caulfield said. "This formula, he reported, is an algebraic equation involving the squaring of numbers, the extracting of square roots and calculations running, in some instances, into the hundreds of tril- THIS WEEK'S cfTORT Lo-za- BOYS Juvenile Cache Dynamite Dr. LaVere Dee Paulsen, Magna youth, who is becoming an excell- Around Magna ent doc:or, tells this story about Community Park a patient who was to appear before the television camera. To paraphrase a childhood poem, is not God in the restaurant, just the same as in the home? SO the restaurant operators are putting on their tables printed cards which bear the lovely words of thanks of the three major faiths. I brought one home with me on a recent trip to Oregon. It reads: Catholic: "Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Jewish: Lift up your hands toward the sanctuary and bins the Lord. Blessed art Thou, O Lord our God, King of the universe, who bringest forth bread from the earth. Amen. It is a simple thing, but in this materialistic age, it is a wonderful thing. After all, there is no shame attached to being seen thanking God for the food we eat A great many of us seem to have forgotten this.
