Show ' - ' - " ' -,'.'- A-" " : Vinnie Salvato was selected at random to play the part of the "bad guy" in comical sketch at Denny's Wigwam. Salvato was taking part in Mar. 30 Utah Heritage Products Alliance workshop in Kanab. Denny's Wigwam Owner Lauds Heritage Highway Delighted participants at the Utah Heritage Products Alliance meet in Kanab on Mar. 30 not only dined on traditional pioneer Dutch oven beef, potatoes, biscuits, baked beans, salad and cobbler, they were also cleverly entertained by owner Denny Judd, a 5lh generation Kanab resident, as he regaled them with tales of the past. Following lunch, Judd spent a few minutes giving some background back-ground on how his Kanab business was formed and how it progressed to become the popular tourist attraction it is today. ; He told them Kanab was founded found-ed in 1870 by Mormon pioneers. His great-grandfather was the first -sheriff and he spoke of how the movie industry helped the area ; produce one of the first black and ; white silent cowboy flicks in 1924 ; called Deadwood Coach, starring ; Tom Mix. Since that time over 100 movies had been made in the town dubbed "Little Hollywood." Judd reminisced fondly about the (See JUDD on page 5-A) : JUDD From Front Page "good old days" when his high school class got out of school for a day to play Indian extras on a movie set. He talked about how his business began as a small trading post, gradually adding what the traveler wanted over the years and how they continue to market to the tourism public. He selected various workshop participants to help in an interactive old West play titled How The West Was Lost. Each volunteer dressed up in old west attire starting with a wagonmaster, coyotes, a good guy, a bad guy, the playboy, soldiers, Indians and a pioneer couple. The delightful sketch was set to music and flawlessly acted out by the participants with great photographic opportunities for those watching. The time spent at Denny's Wigwam was a special treat for participants and in keeping with the theme of Utah's Heritage Highways. |
