Show GUEST EDITORIAL Succumbing To Money People For The USA, Color Country Chapter Tend Honey, President Recently here in Kane County we have taken the Federal Government Govern-ment head-on over the roads issue and when all is said and done, Kane County residents will have far more than the monument plan and planners plan-ners were offering. Roads are only a small part of the real issue. Roads (access) are only one of our rights under the attack of the current administration and extremist groups. There is a well-planned and thought-out strategy strat-egy and strong movement to make land designations and to protect a variety of species in an effort to keep the public off public lands. Wilderness, Monuments' and other land designations restrict and eliminate elimi-nate land uses that are vital to the economic stability of American, citizens across the west. However, all is not lost. As a trade off, we get more "big government". gov-ernment". We will have 52 monument employees and 13 BLM employees to manage the same land that 13 or fewer BLM employees have managed for many years. : Apparently Ap-parently monuments are far more sophisticated and require much more than us common folks and the BLM can manage.. In an effort to make lemonade from lemons, as we often hear, some are suggesting we collaborate and join with Babbitt to build a "model Federal empire for the West" here in our own town, but only if they will bring enough money to build our complex next door. Enough money and we will forget for-get that we have Constitutional rights and allow policy makers to break the law and violate our economy, econ-omy, western heritage, culture, and way of life with very little resistance. resis-tance. Enough money and we forget we are protesting and filing lawsuits law-suits against the crippling effect of the monument plan. Enough money and we take the helpless, weak position that we may just as well accept it because we cannot fight Goliath and if we join with him, he will continue to send money to compensate for what he has taken from us and he won't kick us around anymore because be-cause of our close relationship. Most Kanab City and Kane County residents would rather return re-turn the lemons than spend our lives turning them into so-called lemonade. A little lemonade goes a long way. (See EDITORIAL on page 5-A) EDITORIAL From Page 2-A Any effort on our part to assist the Clinton-Babbitt campaign to lock up the west is a big mistake. Even for money. Our community building an edifice as a headquarters through which the feds can continue their onslaught and devastation on Kane County would stand as a reminder re-minder of compromise, weakness and failure. We all have friends and neighbors neigh-bors who are employed by the Federal Fed-eral Government and we appreciate their friendship and association and the contribution they make to our communities. We recognize the benefits of their expertise in the . balance and management of federal lands. But the movement by some to lock up our county with one-half Monument and one-half Wilderness is outrageous and must be fought with every ounce of effort possible to preserve our rights, liberty and freedom for ourselves and for future generations.
