Show By Marlene Haws 826-4859 To those of you who write periodically to say how much you enjoy the column, "Thank you." That's the only reason I write it at all is for people like you. Sorry I don't have time to answer your letters but, hopefully, you would rather read the column instead. The Escalante LDS First Ward got a new bishopric last Sunday. The new bishop is Wade Barney, with Richard Crawford and Stanley Stowe as his counselors. The outgoing bishopric were Marc McLemore, Wade Barney and Norman Christensen. The McLemores hosted a party for the old and the new on Monday night. Mac, Jo and Bobbi Barney, Cedar City; Carolyn Williams, Teasdale and Berthene Griffin, Henrieville all attended LDS Sacrament meeting on Sunday to see Wade become the new bishop. Jim Alvey brought Eva Dean Liston home from Mapleton again. She spent some time with Elvon and Utahna Poulson in Salt Lake City this time. Jim helped his mom, Fay Alvey with some odd jobs that she can no longer do before returning home. Velma Boulter accompanied Clea Woolsey to Provo. They 3 stayed long enough for Clea to keep i a doctors appointment, then i returned home. Garl and Pat Cottam brought Ushur and LaPriel Spencer home. It looked like they had a whole crew j there doing some carpenter work and putting new shingles on the roof. If it hadn't leaked at all this summer it should have been good for the winter. But you know the old saying "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Bill and Clorene Vidrine are having aluminum roofing on their house. Everyone seems to think this winter will be one "big one." Mario and Christa Schow went to Smithfield for the blessing of their new grandson. His name is Spencer Mario so they had to be there. A group went from here for a -"houseboat cruise" on Lake Powell. ; In the group were: Kevin and : Vickie Schulkoski, Stephen and ' Dianna Steed, Donna Gladen, Joan Rieskol (Dianna's and Donna's mother), Clayne and Lori Coleman, ; Shane and Stephanie Steed, Shannon and Jenifer Steed, Glen Hardison, Roy and Rosemary Krugeur from Portland, Ore. and Cookie Robertson, who works with Shannon Steed at Bryce. They stayed from Saturday until Tuesday and had a great time skiing, riding the wave runners and seeing all the wonderful sights on the lake. They stayed on the Escalante River a couple of nights. Ray and Lois Barney have been here from Kaysville. Ray went hunting with Don Haws and Freland Alvey and Lois stayed with her Mom, Elda Haws. Sylvia Luker is back from Salt Lake. She attended a wedding for her nephew and also got to see a ' new grandchild, bom to her son and J daughter-in-law, Scott and Cathy Luker. Monty Luker went to Bull Frog Arena to investigate an accident and while he was there ran across his daughter and son-in-law Chante and Mickey Vriens. Also his son, Samuel Luker from Alaska. Sam came to Escalante to spend some time with his parents before returning home. j Wayne and Maurine Dean, j California, have been here helping Blaine Willis do some more rearranging and getting him settled into his new home. They then went to Provo for a missionary reunion. J. C. and Eva Haws and Velma Boulter went to Boulder to visit with Neal and Faye Jepsen. Their son, Neal Henry Jepsen was there from Colorado so they were able to visit with him also. Dan Tucker is home from the hospital after having surgery. Hope this will make you feel like a new t man, Dan! The cattlemen are busy ' gathering up the herds to bring them home from the mountains. But they have had it so good up there this year they don't seem that anxious to come home. There is still all kinds of feed and water and not too cold yet! |
