Show Area Obituaries Haws Porter i ! ! ,. A i ' l I . i Haws Porter PROVOESCALANTE -Roland Haws Porter, 80, of Provo, died Saturday, Apr. 20, 2002, in Provo. He was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Escalante. He was the first son of Roland and Mina Haws Porter. He attended schools in Escalante graduating from Escalante High School in 1940. He met Janet Hutchinson while attending Brigham Young University. They married on May 3, 1949, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Haws served in the California Mission 1942-1944, was drafted into the Army and saw combat in the Philippines. He worked for Al Steel at Beeline Service, then Geneva Steel for 1 1 years. He also worked at Tooele Army Depot retiring in 1981. He was active in the LDS Church, serving serv-ing as a counselor in a bishopric, in a High Priests Group, as a temple worker and as Elders Quorum president, bringing many into activity. In retirement, retire-ment, he drove for United Way and was a crossing guard. Haws is survived by his wife, Janet; three sons and two daughters: daugh-ters: Glynn Porter and Sandy Mitchell, Draper; Karalinn (Calvin) Kasmer, Erda; Robert Thomas Nyle Richards TROPIC Thomas Nyle Richards, 86, of Tropic, passed away Apr. 16, 2002, in Payson. He was born May 13, 1915, in Tropic, to Thomas Ephraim and Blanche Ethel Ott Richards. He married Merle Wilkinson, June 8, 1939, in the St. George LDS Temple. She preceded him in death Dec. 28, 2000. He was a man of his word and he lived by his handshake. Nyle was a rancher and sheep-herder, sheep-herder, and livestock was his life. Nyle was also a trail guide for Bryce and Zions Canyon There was never a doubt that he was a hard worker and his family fami-ly was very important to him. He is survived by his children, chil-dren, Thomas Reldon (Dixie) Richards, Apache Junction, Ariz.; Dennis Lynn, Escalante and former wife Pat Builtman of Evansville, Ind.; RoLaine Reynolds, Goshen; Arvel K. (Carole) Richards, Sandy; Mary (Prall) Taylor, Loa; Lori (Jim) Jones, Pleasant Grove; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Maxine Crosby, Panguitch; Helma Haas, Tropic; RVean (Michelle) Porter, Springville; Khem (JoLeigh) Porter, Mapleton; RusCene Porter, Provo; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters and two brothers: Velma Boulter and Vergean (Carolyn) Porter, both of Escalante; Marie (Kenneth) Griffin, Provo; Maxine (Floyd) Horrocks, Roosevelt; Bobby (Sandra) Porter and Yoland (David) Mclnelly, Mesa, Ariz; and sister-in-law, Lenor Porter, Gilbert, Ariz; He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Menial Porter; and his brother-in-law, William Boulter. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Apr. 27, 2002, at 1 p.m. in the Escalante Stake Center. Friends may call on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pleasant View 4th LDS Chapel, 2900 N. 650 E. in Provo and at the Escalante Stake Center on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Escalante Cemetery with military mili-tary rites by the Escalante American Legion Post. Alice Lloyd Alvey ' BOULDER - Alice Lloyd Alvey, 80, of Boulder, passed away Apr. 22, 2002 at Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch. She was born Oct. 1, 1921 in Price, to Owen M. and La Verne Cox Lloyd. She married mar-ried Cecil A. Alvey, Sept. 16, 1938 in Price, and the marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. He died Aug. 23, 1981. She is survived by her son, Darrell C. (Danna) Alvey of Cedar City; son-in-law, William Winter of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister, sis-ter, Laura Roberts; sister-in-laws, Neta (Owen) Wooley, Chris Alvey and Maxine Alvey; six grandchildren: Alisa, Christopher and Shiloh Alvey; Richard Winter, Davie (Sabrina) Winter, Laura (Richard) Pack; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Scott Pack and Hope Ann Winter. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Apr. 26, 2002 at 1 p.m. in the Boulder LDS Ward Chapel. Howard V. Hatch PANGUITCH - Howard V. Hatch, 74 of Panguitch, passed away Apr. 22, 2002 in Panguitch. He was born Jan. 31, 1928 in Panguitch to Meltiar V. and Ella Cleo Veater Hatch. He married Mamie Dodds on Aug. 13, 1946 in Fredonia, Ariz. The marriage was solemnized on May 17, 1948 in the St. George LDS Temple. He was an active member of the LDS Church, having served as an Elders Quorum president, Sunday School president and was currently serving as a High Priest in the Panguitch 2nd Ward. He was a prominent livestock rancher and took great pride in the cattle and sheep he owned. He served many years on the Utah Wool Marketing Association and was on the board of the West Panguitch Irrigation Company for 38 years. He was also a member of the Utah Wool Growers Association and the Utah Cattlemen's Association. He was a great horseman who loved good horses. He owned the last range sheep operation in Garfield County. He has passed his love for the land and livestock live-stock on to his family who now are the 5th generation on the family ranch. He is survived by his wife, of Panguitch; children, Thomas V. (Kay) Hatch, Ira Ronald (Julie) Hatch, Arthur Randall (Debbie) Hatch, Collette (Martin) Nay, David Paul (Shawna) Hatch, all of Panguitch; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Ina (Bob) Hanks of r .
