Show Rodney Cottam ESCALANTE, Utah Rodney Cottam, 72, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000 at his home in Escalante. He was born Mar. 31, 1928 in Escalante, Es-calante, to Victor Ellis and May Euzella Roundy Cottam. He married Genae Stowe, they later divorced. He married Golda Henderson, Sept. 8, 1957 in Escalante. Esca-lante. Rodney herded sheep for his dad in his early years. He worked in the oil fields in the western United States and worked on the Glen Canyon Dam. He was also employed em-ployed with the US Forest Service, worked road construction and retired in 1989 from the Garfield County Road Department. He is survived by his wife, Golda of Escalante; children, Rodney Rod-ney Boyd (LaNell) Cottam of Cedar City; Susan Dawn (Terry) Kennedy of Upton, Wyo; Bryce (Colleen) Cottam of Hiko, Nev.; Dan (Glen-na) (Glen-na) Cottam of Escalante; Elaine Cottam of Escalante; Tony (Karen) Cottam of Henrieville; Tonya Spencer of Parowan; 24 grandchildren; grandchil-dren; four great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Doyle V. Mvra Cherrmcfton Miller PANGUITCH, Utah Myra Cherrington Miller, 96, died Sept. 12, 2000. She was born Jan. 11, 1904, in Lehi, to George William and Anna Harmon Cherrington. She married William Del Miller, Sept. 9, 1929, in Salt Lake City. He preceded her in death Nov. 16, 1993. Myra lived in Panguitch for 64 years. She graduated from Davis High School and attended the University Uni-versity of Utah. She was an avid rock hunter, artist and lover of the outdoors. She worked in the Daughters Daugh-ters of the Utah Pioneers, Literary Club, served many years in the Relief Re-lief Society, and sang with many musical groups. She is survived by her son, Riley Warren (Bobbie) Miller, daughters, Lucile'M. (Don) Bridges, and Virginia (Richard) Gibbany; 14 grandchildren; 50 great-grand-children; and 12 great-great-grand-children. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, William Ar-den Ar-den Miller; brothers and sisters: Minnie DeWitt, Sabra McCloud, Luella Wood, Alice Sedgwick, Alfred, Al-fred, Jesse, Phillip, and Kenneth Cherrington. Magleby & Sons Mortuary, Richfield. Elda Elizabeth Barker Haws ESCALANTE, Utah Elda Elizabeth Barker Haws, 95, peacefully passed away at her home in Escalante, Utah, Sept. 19, 2000. She was born, Nov. 12, 1904 in Escalante, to Peter Orrin and Johanna Roundy Barker. She married Earl D Haws, Feb. 18, 1925. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple, June 11, 1925. He preceded her in death, March 19, 1991 She was active in the LDS church, serving as Relief Society president, Stake Primary president, and Young Womens president. She . also, taught 4-H. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was a devoted, . loving, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all. She is survived by two sons and three daughters: Klyn B. (Marlene) Haws and Phyllis (Freland) Alvey, both of Escalante, Donald D. (Ethel) Haws of Killeen, Texas, Lois (Ray) Barney of Kaysville, and Flora Jean Dutton of Ephraim; and one nephew she helped raise, Jerald (Sylvia) Haycock of Sandy; 17 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Elsie Fitts of Salt Lake City; and two brothers, Elvin Barker Bar-ker of Idaho and Ned Barker of Eugene, Ore. She is preceded in death by her PANGUITCH, Utah Annie Melita Veater Schaffer, 88, of Panguitch, Utah, died Sept. 19, 2000 in Panguitch. She was born, Feb. 26, 1912 in Spry, Utah to James M. and Maud Kesler Veater. She married Maurice Kempner, Feb. 19, 1929 in Salt Lake City, . Utah; they later divorced. He died Feb. 14, 1965. She married Loren J. "Jim" Schaffer, May 3, 1932 in Farmington, Utah. He died March 28, 1987. She is survived by children: Maurice (Gwen) Kempner of Riverton, Utah, Loren Fredrick (Marie) Schaffer of San Diego, Calif.; and one special niece, Dawna (Larry) Barney of Panguitch. She is also survived by manyj grandchildren, great-grandchildren great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was born Apr. 21, 1926 at Boulder, Utah to Claude Vincent and Lillie Liston Baker. She married Guy Pollock May 28, 1946 in the Manti LDS temple. He preceded her in death June 11, 1995. She is survived by her children, Stanley W. and Sherry Pollock. Sons Steven Guy Pollock and Neal Baker Pollock preceded her in death. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law Terrie (LaRell) Nielsen, 13 grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren great-grandchildren and sisters-in-law Clea Baker, Mabel baker, and Flora Mar-chant. Sherry Pollock, a daughter-in-law paid tribute and a Daughter of the Utah Pioneers tribute tri-bute was paid by Gwen Olsen. Granddaughters Heather Lamb and RaChelle Burnham sang "Never a Better Hero," accompanied by Char-lene Peterson Barbara Watts, a neigh-bor and a friend, also paid tribute, followed by speaker R. Wilmer Baker, a nephew. Dale Barney ESCALANTE, Utah Dale Barney, 61, of Escalante, passed away Sept. 14, 2000, on Beaver Mountain doing what he loved to do, skidding logs on his old faith-full faith-full skidder. He was born April 13, 1939, in Escalante, to Othello and Roena Lay Barney. He married Gail Anderson, An-derson, later divorced. He married Julie Ford. Dale was raised on a ranch and loved animals. He graduated from Escalante High School. He worked at the Glen Canyon Dam until he was drafted in 1962. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964 in Germany. He worked for Kaibab Industries for six years in Fredonia, Ariz. Dale also worked 19 years for the Escalante Sawmill and recently was working for K.D. Frandsen logging until his death. Dale was a member of the LDS Church . He loved to hunt, fish, rock hunt and being outdoors. He had a lot of friends that will deeply miss him. He is survived by his wife, Julie of Escalante; daughter, Charlotte Barney, Cedar City; father, Othello (Roxie) Barney, Escalante; brother, Gerald (Carol) Barney, Escalante; step-children, Treena (Marc) Jepsen, Boulder; Teresa (Allen) Overall, Escalante; John Brotherson; Guy David Brotherson, Salina; Kimmy Woolsey, Lehi; two granddaughters, t y i . . . Wilmer Wil-mer Baker. Honorary pallbearers were Devlin G. Pollock, Boston T. Lamb, John Kaiden Lamb and Mathew Burnham. Interment was in the Escalante Cemetery where Bishop Wade Barney, Escalante 1st LDS Ward, officiated and where Vernon R. Spen-cer, a cousin, dedicated her grave. She was born Apr. 16, 1924 in Panguitch, Utah to James Edwin and Maralta Dickinson Talbot. Tal-bot. She married Carl Ivan Lind-strom Lind-strom July 11, 1942 in Panquitch and they were sealed in the Provo LDS Temple Aug. 10, 1991. Bertha lived and-attended school in Panquitch before moving to San-taquin. San-taquin. Her joy in life was her family, fam-ily, relatives and friends. She was a member of the LDS Church and especially enjoyed being Primary librarian and a visiting teacher. She was a member of the Rota Remus Club. She loved to quilt, make star quilts and cathedral window pillows. pil-lows. She loved to travel with her husband and family and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchil- dren and took pride in their accom- 1 plishments. She loved her home in Santaquin and she thought all her in-laws were great. She is survived by two sons, two daughters: James Ivan (Deborah) (Deb-orah) Lindstrom, Clearfield; Irene (Clifford) Losee, Vernal; Vickie (Barry) Nielsen, Payson; Carl Dee Lindstrom, Santaquin. 10 grand-chi-dren, 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Ray Talbot, Kaysville, Kay-sville, and a sister, Ruth Dutton Johnson, Provo.
