Show Ella Swapp Willis KANAB Ella Swapp Willis, 91, returned to her Heavenly Father on Nov. 27, 1998. She was born June 20, 1907 to James William and Harriet Johnson Swapp in Kanab. She married Garn H. Willis May 27, 1929 in Kanab. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. Ella was a very talented individual. individ-ual. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress, and quilt maker. She was everyone's friend and confidant. Ella was always busy and was a hard worker. She always had a large vegetable garden and beautiful flowers. She worked at the Kane County Hospital for 12 years as a nurse's aide and retired in 1972. After marriage, Garn and Ella lived in Kanab for a time then moved to southern California to work in the aircraft factories. They returned to the red hills of Kanab in 1944 to raise their four sons. Ella was active in the LDS Church serving serv-ing in most of the auxiliaries as teacher and leader. She was a Relief Society President Presi-dent for five years during the construction con-struction of the Kanab LDS Stake Center. Garn and Ella served as temple ordinance workers for some years and as genealogy specialists on the ward. Survivors include her four sons and daughters-in-law: Duane and Nancy Willis and Nolan and Georgia Geor-gia Willis of Salt Lake City, James L J Ella Swapp Willis and Sharon Willis and Nyle and Beverly Willis of Kanab; Dolly Willis of Salt Lake City; 20 grandchildren grand-children and 47 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers broth-ers and one sister: Cliff Swapp of Fredonia, Ariz.; Neaf Swapp of Page, Ariz.; and Corris Morgan of Kanab. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Garn in 1995, four brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998 at the ' Kanab LDS Stake Center. Interment will be in the Kanab City Cemetery under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary. James R. Duckett James R. Duckett, Sr., 73, of Bullhead City, Ariz., formerly of Panguitch, passed away Saturday, Nov. 28 at the St. Rose Hospital in Henderson, Nev. He was bom Sept. 25, 1925 in Santa Ana, Calif, to James Franklin Frank-lin and Lucy Ruth Mitchell Duckett. Duck-ett. He graduated from El Monte High School in El Monte, Calif. He served in the U.S. Navy during dur-ing World War II. He graduated from the University of Denver in Hotel and Restaurant Management and worked in the restaurant business busi-ness most of his life. He owned and operated the Flying M Restaurant Restau-rant in Panguitch from 1969 to 1976 before moving to Bullhead City. He loved to play golf, especially with his family. He is survived by four children: James R. (Barbara) Duckett, Henderson, Hend-erson, Nev.; Kathy (Robert) Hooker, Bullhead City, Ariz.; Jeryl Gates, Mojave Valley, Ariz.; and Keith (Laura) Duckett, Suharita, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother. Bill (Janell) Duckett of Page, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents. Arlis Brooks ESCALANTE Arlis Brooks, 85, of Escalante died Dec. 1,- 1998 in Provo, Utah. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. in the Escalante 2nd Ward LDS Chapel. Friends may call from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Escalante Esca-lante Cemetery. |
