Show LaRue Campbell Griffin ESCALANTE, UTAH ' LaRue Campbell Griffin, 88 of Escalante, Utah, passed away May 1, 1996 at the Crestview Convalescent Center in Provo, Utah of natural causes. She was born Aug. 2, 1907, in Escalante, the daughter of George Washington and Lillie May Heaps Campbell. She married Layton Griffin, Jan. 8, 1927, in Escalante. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, Oct. 20, 1930. He preceded her in death, June 7, 1974. They lived in Escalante until health reasons forced them to move to Provo in 1963. LaRue was active in the LDS Church and served in teaching and leadership positions. Her longest and most choice position was secretary of the North Ward Relief Society organization. She also served a mission with her husband in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Clawson Campbell, and infant sister. Funeral Services were held Saturday, May 4, 1996 in the Escalante LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Clem Griffin, a nephew, officiating. The family prayer was offered by nephew Kenneth Griffin, followed by the invocation given by a neighbor, Vernon Spencer. A nephew, Jim Spencer gave a tribute A musical selection "You're Not Alone," was performed by nephew, Randy Griffin. Eva Dean Liston provided remarks, followed by another an-other musical selection "We'll Meet Again," by niece and nephew, Bill and Dawn Griffin. The benediction was offered by friend, Alona Veatch with postlude music was provided by Janet Spencer. LaRue Campbell Griffin Pallbearers were grand-nephews Arden Taylor, Darrell Alvey, Dean Gledhill, Jim Alvey, Heber Poulson, Steve Blakey, Boyd Griffin, Randy Griffin, Brian Griffin, Evan Excell, Steve Eyre, Gaydep Griffin, Rick Palmer, Dennis Lott, Jim Spencer and Doug Braithwaite. Honorary pallbearers were C.R. and Ruby Griffin, Kenneth and Marie Griffin, Arlis and Melba Brooks, Eva Dean Liston, Bill and Dawn Griffin, Clem and Doneta Griffin, LaVern and Mary Griffin and Maitland and Nelda Spencer. Compassionate services were provided by the Escalante 1st LDS Ward Relief Society sisters. Interment was in the Escalante Cemetery with nephew Bill Griffin performing the dedication of the grave under the direction of Neal S. Magleby and Sons Morturary, Richfield. Wealtha Orton ST. GEORGE, UTAH Wealtha Orton, 81, died May 5, 1996 at the Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, Utah after a short illness. She was born April 22, 1915 in Rockville, Utah to Levi and Cora DeMille. She married her sweetheart, Morris Orton, Sr. June 10, 1931. Wealtha retired from the Maywood Police Dept. and moved to St. George with her husband in 1977. She was very active in the LDS Church all of her life. She held many positions in the church, but her favorites were Dance Director and Young Women's President working on road shows. She loved being with her family, whether it was on the deer hunt, fishing at Panguitch Lake, reunions, family cookouts or just being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Everyone came to grandma's house for a good meal. She will be greatly missed. Surviving family members include in-clude her husband, Morris Orton, sons, Keith Orton, LaVerkin, Utah, Dave Orton, Las Vegas, Nev. and daughter, Lois Orton Terrell, St. George, Utah; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Max, Sheldon and Wayne Demille, and sisters, Reva Shell and Ina Fleckner. Funeral services will be held May 9, 1996 at 10 a.m. at the Dixie Downs Stake Center, 1184 North Dixie Downs Road. Friends may call Wednesday evening, 7-8 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 300 West St. George Blvd. Interment will be in the Panguitch City Cemetery at 4 p.m. under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, St. George. |
